Ever vigilant to burn, I mean earn more gas money, my 17 year old son has come up with a plan. He has seen and heard my frustration with K&N and while he was helping me with my L Intake this afternoon, he asked what kind of market is out there for these things. I guess he saw the 9’ length of PVC pipe and the ¾ can off spray paint left over and thought he was well on his way.

I told him I’d post this thread. Anyone interested? Quality will be top notch as he’s even more anal than I am. I still need to source the aluminum tube so I don’t quite have a handle on the overall cost. It’s also a pain to source the nitrile parts form the US (customs fees).

Anyway, let me know.

I'm in the market for someone to manufacture an L-Intake, as most everyone here is...but oy: I'm in the states mate.

Customs aside put me down for one.

Should'nt be a problem shipping it to the US. I have access to my company's courier. The last time I used it, I sent an amp to California, the package arrived the next day.

I have extra PVC and aluminum tubing on hand and all but the nitrile components are close at hand. Unfortunately I haven't found a local source for the nitrile so I would need to ship from Innovative Turbo.

Anyway....once I find out what the customs fees are for the nitrile, I'm sure we can work out a deal.

Can you post a pic and a price for a completed unit when it's ready? I thought about building one myself but I like my fingers where they are now!! :D

I knew someone was going to ask for pics! I don't have a digital camera, but will figure out a way.

Other than the nitrile, the rest of my costs are in $CDN so the exchange rate should make this pretty cheap. My thoughts would be for whoever is interested to buy and ship the nitrile to me and I'll ship a completed unit back. I'm flexible though.

The real trick will be to estimate how many Dremel bits I'm going through. The aluminum is almost too hard for a sanding bit but pretty much liquifies and gums up a grinding stone. I'll figure it out - maybe I'm being to particular (my wife calls it anal).

Intrepid99 - I painted mine satin black. It's gonna match the nitrile rubber pretty good. Almost stock looking. If I'm reading UPS tracking correctly the parts should arrive Friday at the latest. Should take lest than 30 minutes to complete.

n_koutelas - If the 2.7L is the same, that won't be a problem. I have a son at UofWindsor. My wife sends care packages there all the time. A example of my courier connections is that I can send anything that fits inside a photocopy paper box there (no weight limit) for under $3.

To make it fit the 2.7, follow the instuctions for the 3.2/3.5 except shorten the 8" pvc tube to 7" and delete the 1" pvc tube all together.

Thats it.

Mind if I modify the current How-to and add this to a 2.7 section so that it will be easier to find?

Thanks!

That implies each of the aluminum tubes needs to be shorted by 1" as well.

n_koutelas - Looks like your gonna get an intake. Do you know Eric MacLean? He's in 2nd year Kin. If you do, he can tell you how particular I am with my projects.

For now, be patient for a couple of days. When my nitrile arrives (hopefully tomorrow), I'll have a good handle on all the costs. I'll post some pics and a price my other son would be willing to build it for. I will maintain the quality control though.

Well with the forums being down, I had lots of time to not only complete the L Intake but also to get it installed!! :D.

Here is the link to the fininshed pics Rick's L Intake .

I also managed to get a handle on the costs of the L Intake for those that want my son to build it for you. All $'s are in the mighty Canadian dollar (divide by about 1.6 for people south of the 49th). With a 25% markup for his labour, it'll cost you $255 plus shipping to whereever you are. The nitrile rubber alone cost me over $150 after brokerage fees and taxes. I thought NAFTA was going to change all this!

Let me know.

please keep in mind that the original price was $140 with shipping included, that is the same price that I sold Intrepid99 his L_Intake

Wow man, that's a lot of cash, I can't believe that it costs that much... I would want one, but currently I'm unemployed and looking for work... maybe after I get a job I'll consider it over the K&N which is $355 approx.

BTW Rick, what 19" rims are you considering??? I need a good looking set!

Something dosent look right on your L_intake. My Nitrile and PVC line up flush. Did you eliminate the aluminum and go with smaller PVC? Or did you eliminate the PVC? Or is it really thin wall PVC?
