Here are my choices

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4074
or
Dell E1505 Dual Core

Both will have:
Intel Core Duo T2050 @ 1.60 GHz
XP Media Center Edition 2005
512MB Memory
15.4" screen size
120Gb Hard drive at 5400 rpm

Basically the same, however I cna get the Dell at $904.00 or the Toshiba at $949.00 plus 6% sales tax at the local best buy.

I looked on ebay and saw them for considerably less, is that even a good consideration?

From what I've seen, eBay is way overpriced for laptops.......just wait for a good sale at Best Buy or Circuit City, and you'll get a laptop cheaper.

I am currently taking a class witch requires me to have a laptop.

For this I bought a E1505 from Dell Outlet...its very nice. I didn't want something extremly heavy like the 17.1 models, this one is perfect for me.

It has the Centrino Duo, 1 gig ram, Dvd drive...etc, etc. I havn't had any problems with it so far...but then again I havn't had any problem with any of my dell computers from the past 6 years or so that havn't been corrected ASAP by Dell sending me parts or sending some other guy out here with the parts.

I would say go with the dell...I would also say that a lot of the DELL laptops on ebay you could easily get through Dell Outlet...they have many things available to you at some awsome prices. I only paid 700 for mine, if you priced it out normally it would be around 900+

Depends on if you're doing memory intensive stuff like burning DVD's and backing up CD Roms to your HD and such. I'm running out of room on my 80GB......luckily I just ordered a 100GB replacement, and will be using the 80GB as an external drive.

Well, since no one has said it yet go Toshiba. The kids all have Dells that the wife has picked up for great $$$ through Dell Outlet but everyone of them has had to be serviced at least once, most more than that, little things like bad usb ports and wireless issues but annoying none the least. I think the biggest problem was a bad video card. My Toshiba is 2 years old with no problems at all.

I'll drop my .02 worth, go with the Dell. There is nothing wrong with the Toshiba laptop, I have worked on a few, and some of the best Compaq Laptops were actually built by Toshiba. That being said and since the tech specs are the same you need to take a look at the support and warranty.

As was already said the complete care warranty is the best in the industry right now, well worth every dime it will cost you. You can also just get a one or two year plan now, and then about 6 months before it expires, they will give you the option of extending it. I have yet to have a problem with any warranty service from them. If you are handy with computers they will even just next day you the part. This works great for desktops, but if you have never had a laptop apart, I don't recommend jumping in for a motherboard swap!

One other thing, if the price you got for the 1505 was online, give them a call, the operator can usually beat the web price by $25-50. Don't forget to look for any discounts you may get as well. Discounts to think about; student/teacher, credit union, employee (i.e. your company uses dell computers, most offer employee purchase discounts) these can run from 3-12% as well.

Happy Shopping

My wife's got a Dell E1505. I couldn't you what's in it since my brother put it together online because computer work is what he does. I got it for her for an anniversary/mother's day/birthday present since all three were within a month of each other. First laptop we've owned, and I can tell you right now, its attached to her like surgically implanted or something! First day it was delivered I had her run out to get a wireless router to replace the wired one we had, and she was up til 2 AM playing around on it and had to be to work at 8 AM that morning!!!

Dude, you're getting a Dell!!!!!!!

Hey, what ever happened to that kid on the Dell commercials anyway?

Well i'll throw a vote in for Toshiba, only because thats the only brand of laptop i've had, and had no issues at all with it in 2 years. I'm sure the dell is an ok buy too though....

Have had my Dell for 2 years though, battery life stinks, but it works great and haven't had any issues. First thing to do though, is to format it and reistall windows, the dell brand software just sucks.

I don't have a laptop myself but I'd get a Dell for sure. At least their desktops actually work from the factory. We bought an HP for my father-in-law and the machine just didn't frickin' work. Took it back, got the same model (if not, there'd be a re-stocking fee - BS!). Same thing, didn't work. Couldn't connect to the Internet without freezing. Piece of garbage. Got the Dell instead (because ours is a Dell and it's always been 100% great) - amazing. Not a single problem. But like I said, I don't know the history of their laptops since I haven't had any.

Get the Dell.

My brother, father, and mother all have Dells, all of which I work on/upgrade. They're about as good, especially in the laptop department, as you could get for a mainstream corporation. My dad's B130 (1.7Ghz Centrino, 1GB DDR2 533mhz) runs smooth, clean, and quiet. Overall, check the prices again, because the whole battery thing (which they took off the ability to build laptops on their site for four days while they restocked for) has dropped some prices down a lot.
