Any External modem will work with Linux, that is an external with a serial connection. I used a creative modem blaster flash 56k -II for awhile, then I realized how useless linux is with a dial up connection. I'm not writing programs or running a server so, I don't care for linux lol. Ohh, usually linux doesn't require specific external modem drivers like windows does, so all you have to do is plug it in, select the proper port in the KPPP and you're set
