Attention fellow Intrepid owners. We all know that we drive if not the best looking car out there, at least one of the best(CAR AND DRIVER 10BEST'). I just thought I would share this experience with you. Begining of this year I parked my Trepid outside of a night club in Hartford, CT at about 11 pm on a Saturday. To my total shock, when me and my fiancee was ready to go home about 2:30 am the car was nowhere to be found. I thought this would never happen to me. You dont ever want to feel what I felt that moment. But I stoped for a second and thought.... Wait a minute!!! I've LoJack alarm/tracking system on it so the cops should be able to track it!!! After all, I paid $600 for the system!! Sure enough. Exactly 4:31 am the same morning I get a call from Officer Lund saying that they tracked the car and it is recovered without a scracht. Two crooks decided to take my Trepid for a joy ride and only God knows what else. I guess they didn't know they were being tracked by the cops the whole time!! Guess what??!! Now they are both sitting in a nice little tiny cell and I totally believe that LoJack just saved me the headache of a lifetime. Think about it!! For $600 it was more than worth. I hope you dont ever have to go through this. But if you do!! You better have LoJack on your Trepid. Thanks.

Same here. Thankfully, I live in an area where car-jacking is VERY uncommon. People here barely even get their cars broken into, let alone stolen. If I walked out and my car was gone, I would probably have an anurism I'd be so pissed off.

Thanks for the info!!!! Did you have any type of alarm, factory antitheft etc....?

I have had a feeling something like that is going to happen, I'm going to get my Viper installed soon w/starter disable and a second starter kill device that only I'll now how to activate. It's no Lojack but it's something.

My 2001 Black R/T was going to come with Lojack as part of the deal! Damn!

I'm working on a new anti-carjacking system that's called "Jack-Back", someone tries to jack you, you jack them..... If someone tries to mess with "Project Trep 2.7L" I'm gonna flash and jack someone up baby!

But more seriously.... Again, thanks for the info. After seeing a stolen 2.7L trep that actually almost outran a cop on Cops I really don't want no one doing that kinda stuff in my trep.

After reading this it's given me more incentive to move quick on some type of vehicle protection, definately.....

Take care..... Glad it worked out!

I saw the initial post said something about Car and Driver 10 Best.... seemed funny I can't imagine this car making the Car and Driver 1000 Best... maybe 999.... The more I drive it the more I hate it.

Anyway went to Car and Driver and I don't see no Dodge Intrepid or any of the various versions of this car?

What list are you looking at?

Tom, sorry to hear that you hate your Intrepid. Why do you hate it? If you hate it so much, why don't you sell it???

In spite of what you think, Tom, the Intrepid is viewed by a majority of the automotive community to be a great car...opinions in this forum notwithstanding.

FYI, here's the Car and Driver 10 Best listing that shows the Intrepid: http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/10best/2002/10best_gallery/1998_cover.xml[/UR L]

As you can see, it was number 5 in their 10 Best for 1998.. the first year of the 2nd-gen Intrepid/LH platform.

P.S., the Intrepid was 6th in 1999, moved out of the number 5 spot by the 300M.

A big regret for sure... but I can't turn back time and the car has no resale value... so I am stuck with this miserable, ugly slow, handles like a garbage scow, no brakes etc etc etc.....

and I have my fingers crossed that the engine ticking, transmission whining, electric window crunching, heater clicking, clunking noise on turns.. etc etc etc won't turn into big problems before I pay off my loan and unload it.

Last Chrysler product I'll ever buy... that is for sure!

Ugly? How can you think the car is ugly? You did look at it before you bought it, right?? I would hope that you wouldn't buy a car you think is ugly on the outside, because that is something you should immediately determine.

And as for the problems you're having with it, I smell a lemon.

If all you're going to do in these forums is whine and complain, Tom, then please spare us and don't post anything at all.

Go buy a different car, be it a GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda, VW, Nissan, whatever. Do what you must, but just DO SOMETHING.

People who complain about something AND don't do anything about it are idiots. End of story.

I want someone to steal my intrepid. It aint worth crap now in value. I am very disappointed in the depreciation of this car and will never buy another. It seems to be close to honda and toyota in quality-close now quite there yet- yet it still depreciates so much more. _Probably because it wont last that long either. Well i say i wish someone would steal it because my insurance has a clause stating i will be refunded "realistic replacement value" so even though trade in and retail on a 2000 es loaded with 3.2 is 13k and 15k i could get 20 k easy for it. TOtaled or stolen I hope it happens haha. Where is a big dear to hit haha!

Sorry Tom, a 2001 model...should still be under warranty. you could have some of those problems fixed. Something must have impressed you about the car. I don't know a lot of people who just go buy a car without having any idea what the car is capable of. And there are not many cars on the market today that have great resale value, buy it new and loose 3k-5k when you drive it home. If you wanted a High perfomance car, you should have looked at a viper :D ;)

Actually, the Intrepid loses it's value so fast because it is a fleet car. A lot of rental places use them, and then flood the market with used ones.

hmm.. what other cars on the market for a similar price have a quality feel that is as high or higher than an intrepid? NONE. you have to go to more expensive euro cars or top of the line imports to get a better feel than the intrepid. GM feels like you are driving a TONKA plastic toy. Ford feels like it will fall apart at any time.

Rented

Maybe my car is a lemon... I rented one and drove it to NY. Liked the way it drove on the highway...

Didn't like the power at all (2.7L) but thought if I got a 3.2L it would be more powerful. Not really it's still pretty slow.

Never had to hit the brakes hard so I didn't notice how terrible the brakes are...

Didn't notice the way it wiggles and get's pushed around by the draft behind semi's. Or for instance when it's windy you can feel the car getting pushed around on the highway... never noticed that in my Probe and as someone pointed out it's about 1/2 the weight.

With a baby on the way we needed a bigger car. I figured it didn't matter what it looked like.. But again if it drove solid had plenty of power and good brakes then I don't really care what it looks like...

Anyway I did read the Intrepid news group before buying the car so in some way I can blame you all for my mistake :)... not serious about that but I think it's good that if someone is reading this forum to make a decision that they know that it's not all a bed of roses.

Take care,

Tom
