Can anyone tell me WHY I'm suppossed to tow my car to a shop to have someone with a scan tool bleed my brakes after installing a new master cyl. ?

I believe they are electronic solinoids that operate with the system, and they need to be reset via scan tool.

If you have ABS...the dealer can put a DRB scanner on it and actuate the ABS pump/solenoid block to get the air out of it. If you don't have ABS...then I don't see why you can't use the standard bleeding method to get any air out.

Ron is correct; you can also bleed the system yourself as normal, then, as long as the brake pedal feels "normal" take it to a dealer for the ABS bleed - refer to FSM for further details. If you only replaced the MS and didn't disturb any other lines, you'll have no problems.
