I have a 99 intrepid wit 160 k miles. Ive had the car for about a year and a half and it runs smooth but i wonder if the cars just gunna give out on me soon due to all the miles.

Ive put alot of money into this car and was thinkin about selling it but i dont know. Are intrepids good? Will they keep going even past 200 k miles? Alot of people "mainly haters" who drive pieces of shits say intrepids are cheap junky cars that eventually break down but my **** drives smooth.

Anyone here have a intrep wit 200 miles and still got it running?

there is a huge thread on this and there are several high mileage Treps. What engine is in yours? If its running smooth I personally keep it...at 160k Im not sure how much you would be able to sell it for so it might not really be worth it, especially if the car is running smooth and reliable. Ive seen some pretty high mileage cars( my gf's family has two ford contours both with over 500k on them) and the main thing is take care of your vehicle and it will take care of you....unless you have a 2.7..then just pray often lol

Do you have a 2.7 or 3.2 or 3.5? A 2.7 will go there as long as you have the timing chain and water pump changed approximately every 100k miles. These engines do not like it when maintenance is neglected.

The 3.2/3.5 will go the distance too. They are a very strong engine. They NEED to have the timing belt and water pump changed every 100k miles and they will literally run forever.

The trannies on these cars are pretty bulletproof as well. There are a few tranny failure stories out there, but overall they are few and far between. If it does blow up, take a look on Car-Part.com and you will see that they are only a few hundred dollars for a good used one.

If taken care of any car can hit 200,000 miles... But most I have seen in the junkyard are 80k that was abused and wasn't taken care of.... Regular oil changes, being easy on the transmission and such, and keeping it rust free will help a lot... Mine is a 97 with just over 150k miles.... The last 50k or so... A lot of work was done to keep it running because the previous owner screwed it over.

Mine is a 3.2. When i bought it it had about 140 k miles on it. The first couple of months i had no probs but after taht every 2 months something else was going worng wit it. Ive replaced the water pump, i replaced the radiaotr last month, new ignition switch, i repaired a leak i had on the foront seal of my tranny, i had spark plugs or coils as they call em replaced.

Its driving smooth now, i have a lil coolant leak and my mechanic said its the thermostat housing, whatever the fuk that is. I f i decide not to sell it ima have that replaced.

mine is a 1998 with the 3.2 and it has about 172000 miles on it with just about all original parts except for the necessary replacements

just keep up the maintenance and the car will do what you need it to do

170 huh? You got a silver one just like mine. The reason im wondering is cuz my cousin wants to sell me his mustang for 4500. its a 99 wit only 68 k miles but this car drives like ****. It drives rough and shakes everytime im at a stoplight. I always thought a mustang would pik up quick and drive the way a sports car should. This stang was taking forever and had a hard time reaching 60.

A car wit less miles is obviously better to have but my intrepid drives like a ****ing jet lol. Ive put alot of money in it and dont wanna let it go. Wit all the miles on it i aint gunna get much for it anyhow. Ive been thinking about this alot lately. do i keep it'? sell it and get the stang? what would yall do?

Yea sounds like the previous owner maybe didn't take the "best" care of it, but think about all that stuff you are replacing.

My older brother sold his dodge stealth TT 5 years ago because it kept nickel and diming him, saw the guy he sold it to and he has put almost 50k on the car and hasnt replaced a thing. Of course the 3.2 seems to sell pretty nice too,

I guess it depends on how reliable you think the engine really is, but the 3.2 and 3.5 definitely have a nice history.

I dont know about the trannys being bullet proof.. I always thought they were the weakest link in our cars. Dont beat the hell outta it and they will last a while, but then again thats with any car

yep about 171901 to be exact...it still runs strong and smooth to

i would say to make your decision on which one you think will cause you less problems a couple months down the road...even though a nice mustang may have more appeal to the ladies lol

Thats a hard decision especially for me considering i know **** about cars. My intrepid, i ****ing love it, its shining inside and out, leather seats, system, it looks like a new car.

My cousin said his mechanic said there was no prob wit the stang and the tranny is good. It was his chicks car and she just drove it to work and back and had that stang garage kept.

Its a hard decision, plus if i sell the intrep and get the stang i wont be welcomed here anymore, lol.:bye:

true, but i personally think that anybody with any car know how can make there mustang one of a kind and not be like the rest

even though it does seem like everywhere you look theres a mustang

i sure wouldnt mind having one of the new Shelby KR's though

Its a regualr v6. It was garage kept. It dont pik up for **** though. You really have to step on the pedal for it to pik up and even hit 50. My intrepid like i said before drives smooth like a jet. Ive driven out of town in this car a bunch of times and was flying going 80 on the highway and didnt even know it.

Yea the Stang is still a great car, and will easily turn heads, I'm just sick of seeing the Standard Silver edition.

They started making them look like they are suppose to a year ago but I still see those small front ended little wimpys running around.

And 3/4 of the ones around here that I see are manuals, that just makes me sad.

depending on what year mustang you have, the V6 hp numbers wernt really that great

i belive the 1999-2004 V6 mustangs only had 190 or so HP on a 3.8L

The 1998 and 1999 Intrepid 3.2 had 225 HP

so lack of power may be a reason for sluggish acceleration :icon_conf

I used to love mustangs when i was younger in my teenage days. Im still young and like sports cars but im more in to roomy luxurious type cars now. The only reason i wanna go through wit this really is cuz i have more of a chance wit the stang than the intrepid as far as longevity goes, what ever that ****ing means.

The stang will attract the ladies but ladies love my intrepid, i get compliments anytime a lady sees it or steps foot in it. Plus its roomy and theres more room in it to smash and i need thats room cuz that my own personal hotel room.
