Chalk up another one for the "grandpa car."

Lined up at a red light on Highway 252. Beside me is this little guy in a riced* out Civic EX coupe. This thing had it all. The Altezza's, white painted wheels, wheel well rubbing lowering, fart can and the picnic table wing. Not too many stickers though, so he wasn't packing as much hp as he could.

He sees me checking out his car and decides to blip the throttle and creep forward. Not too bad sounding actually, a lot better than some of those other coffee cans. I wasn't really in the mood for a race, but I though "All right..."

Light turns green and he floors it. I do the same, with TC off and in first and jump to a quick 1/2 length lead. Surprisingly he pulled to the mirros before the shift, but after that it was over. The LHS pulled away and kept pulling till 75 when I was about 3-4 lengths ahead.

Of course he did the fly by with the finger in the air. Why do most of them do that?

Footnote: For all you kids on here who take offence to that term, too bad. It is a widley recognized term, and I'll use it as my discretion dictates.

PS For all you thinking "When is he gonna get smoked?" here is your answer. I'm smart enough to know not ot pick on or attempt to race cars more powerful than I am.

The NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw (spelling?) even used the term "rice rocket".

One of these days one of those ricers will actually have some power under the hood and you'll get smoked. That's just life. But I'm sure that will be a rare occurance! :)

I'm curious as to why they do the middle finger thing too. After all, he was the one who initiated the race! :)

I'm sure he really had to twist your arm
:D

How long do you hold it in first when your manually shifting?
Well, when the time comes that I get beat, I'll be graceful about it.

I usually hold first till redline. Although if you miss the shift, the car will do it for you. I think it has some kind of self preservation arctitecture in the computer.

Now where's the fun in that? Unless some guy is being an anal orifice, whenever I race (which isn't too often), I try something that might be a challenge. I raced a Mercedes E-class (won, barely), a Monte Carlo SS (won), a 3000GT (I stuck with him for about the first 6 feet), and various other things. A race isn't fun if you know you're going to win. But's that's just my opinion. It actually is fun to pick on Civics...
Well I'll race the "big guys" if I feel up to it. I love seeing pure performace cars do thier thing.

Hopefully two years from now I'll have a great car for kills. Right now the cheapest things to hot rod is turning out to be Turbo Buicks. You can buy a decent one (post 85 for intercooled) for around $4,000. Add another $3,000 on top of that in drivetrain and chassis mods and you have a mid 11s, high 10s car for $7,000 with full interior, AC and all the other Buick creature comforts.
Hey MadTxn,
Really like the way the headligh covers look on your car. Do you have any more pictures?
In the picture thats in your signature it kind of looks like a Trans Am

Thanks. All of my pictures look the same. But that was when I first got the car, and I've done "stuff" since then. I hope to get more pictures soon.
I dont really like pitchin up to the big guys, I respect they can kick my ass, but when Rice strikes and these kids think that you should lick thier boots then thats when I love to kill :) Hopefully with my next car (300M) I can start taking on the big guys :)
I don't know about you guys but here, I find Toyota drivers the worst and slowest. They hesitate off the start, wait til all is clear for miles before making that left hand turn and drive slow damn slowwwwwww!

All but the Celicas.
I also find most Camry owners are elderly, or 'young' family men with 2 kids and they drive like turtles, kind of 'savouring' their Camrys. And those Tercels and Corollas,.. they are even slowerrrr.

How about that Echo? It would be fun to haul that tin can in our huge trunks.

I think that with every LH car sold, Chrysler should give you a free Echo.

You guys may not remember but many years ago, Ford had a deal whereby if you bought a Lincoln, they gave you a free Yugo.

Currently, the 300M and the R/T have the same 0-60 times (actually, the R/T is about 0.1 seconds faster!) :). In a couple of years, the 300N and the 3rd gen Intrepid come out. The rumor is it will have an optional 5.7L hemi! Oh yeah baby!!!
or you could go for a 300hp 2002 Chrysler 300M special.... :D
I usually do not instigate races however this evening I figured I would aggrevate a 'ricer'. Late model Civic (or Accord), pretty dark. All those cars look the same anyhow. He had a nice set of wheels and wide tires all around. His pipe, not being huge, was larger than normal and sounded decent.
We took off from the light. I did not floor it but gave him a good run. He did get ahead of me straining every RPM he could muster out of that little 4 banger however, being smarter than him, up ahead, without warning, the road was cut up....both lanes and 40 feet long, aaaaaaaaaaaannnnndddd 5 inches deep down.
Bammm!!!! over the indent he went and immediately slammed on the brakes. I, once over the depression, floored and left him well behind.
At the next light, he pulls up and drops his right window. Asked me if I knew about the construction and I said 'Yep' and floored it leaving him in the dust. At the next light, I was bored with him and didn't want to waste my time so he gave me the congragutory salute with his finger and veered off on to the highway.
Next time, don't mess with the big boys, A-Hole!!! :D :D :D

i whooped someone in my dad's 97 360 ram 3/4 ton on the way to the airport today. first off, my trep is in minneapolis being taken care of by relatives while i'm in fort worth for 3 weeks. anyway, there is an interchange that has been under construction for the longest time...this guy pulled up in a ford f250 gas burner and starts punching the gas. i powerbraked a little and checked to make sure the o/d was off. when the light turned green i chirped the tires and the guy floored it. i slowly pushed the gas down to the floor and the big 360 awoke with this ferocious roar and left the guy staring at nothing but taillight by the time his lane merged into mine. mo mopar muscle....
