I'm looking at motherboards and I have a question. On some of these mobos (actually, most of the ones I've looked at) they have two IDE connectors, but no floppy connector. How does one hook up the floppy drive?

For reference, my current mobo has two IDE connectors plus the floppy connector.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps you can reference some motherboards that you have been talking about?
I can give you tons of computer info :)
I've been mainly looking at the Abit mobos (KG7, KT7A, KR7A). I did notice that the specs list a floppy port, but I can't locate it on the picture of the mobos. Well, I can locate it on the KT7A.

I currently have an Abit mobo (BE I think) and have had no problems with it. That is why I'm looking at Abit first.

Thanks.

They are probably slowly phasing out floppy drives. If you want to use a floppy drive on that MB... just buy an external USB one. They cant be that expensive.

I thought all Windows based computers need a floppy drive. And since Windows is the prevelant OS, why would they phase out floppy ports?

Why would windows need a floppy drive? You can install it from a bootable CD. **** nowadays you can even install stuff with a wakeon-lan card.

That is true. I forgot about that. Damn I need to lay off the crack. :)

Ok, what is this wakeon-lan card? I've heard the term before, but I don't know **** about it. Thanks. :)

Its a nic interface.Essentially it allows you to either via a LAN or WAN stir your computer from its slumber.
Good for administrators, helps keep the mileage down.:D

Buy my system;-)

Yeap, KG7 has a floppy.

BTW, Intel/AMD/VIA and others agreed that floppy will go away along with parallel ports on mobos. USB 2.0 and other things like firewire will be the new standards as well as serial ATA. Yeap, IDE's days are numbed and not in just 0's and 1's.

sURFN:rolleyes:

Here comes serial ATA.

Looks like Apple gave up on Firewire. They were the main supporter. USB 2.0 wins.

DDR2 SDRAM.

Athlon XP2200, 512K L2 Cache, 166 X 2 Bus. Need a Via KT400 to run it through.

Had my first Seagate Baracudda IV start to die on me. Developing bad sectors. Still good drives though.
