This is my 1994 dodge intrepid 3.5. It runs great and we are planning to fix some things on it as well. Another strange problem about it, the computer is going bad. For example, the car will be in drive, but the computer says it is in park. Another example is, the speedometer will get stuck at 40 then jerk to the actual speed we are going. (sometimes all readings go to 0 and then back to normal) so I think it needs a new ECU.

Things to fix:

Air bag cover

Get car painted (might be able to see sunspots in the pics)

EGR valve and IAC (stalls sometimes when idling)

Replace Headliner

Get side piece for the front (Hole in the side)

New ECU

all the things your contributing to an ECU problem seem to involve the instrument cluster too. I would try pulling out the instrument cluster checking/cleaning the electrical contacts, and reinstalling it. Gotta remember that she's 21 years old now and your probably gonna find some old age wrinkles in the wiring from time to time. Start your diagnostics with the cheap and simple things first. In this case, that's a pretty easy and $0 dollar first thing to check.

Yeah I'll look into checking that. Thanks for the advice. But that isn't the only problem that leads to me thinking the ECU is bad. I also have problems with the overhead dash screen turning on 5 minutes after you start the car, and also I took it to the shop and they said I had an electrical short in the ECU.

certainly possible that it is the ECU. I just shoot for the simple things first. let us know how it works out and where you get the new one from. I'm probably not the only other guy interested. I think I'm headed the same way though. I've got some intermittent electrical crap going on in my kids '97.

Yeah these first gen intrepids are known for electrical problems.. Lol
Yeah? Funny Mine was made on the second month of actual production and never had any issues with electrics.

However, ECU is the wrong term, PCM is for the engine, TCM is for the transmission, and BCM is for the body which is what you need to look at first seeing it contols all cluster and OTIS information over the CCD bus.

Located on passenger side inside dash. You have to drop the dash downa bit to get it out help on by one torx head (I think T-10 or T-15 screw)
