I have a 2002 dodge intrepid es v6 3.5 95k miles. I bought this car from the original owner with minimal wear and immaculate interior. Ive only owned it for about a year and up to this point have already had to replace an exhaust, resonater, wheels and tires, brake lines, brake pads, rotors, tie rod ends, and probaly a few more things i left out,About a month and a half ago i put my car in the shop to have the exhaust parts welded because the guy who installed them did not have a welder to finish the job. After i got the car back and drove it on the highway a red light on my dash came on and it overheated for the first time ever. I had it towed to a garage and first replaced the thermostat. It didnt solve the problem and the mechanic found a tiny pinhole in some 3 way pipe he said connected the thermostat to the radiator overflow. So i replaced tht 148$ part and it still was overheating. Next i brought the car to a different mechanic and replaced the water pump and timing belt 130$ parts and 240$ labor. He told me the head gaskets were blown and needed to be replaced. I bought the head gasket set for 200$ through autozone and had it replaced for 350$ plus 150$ for resurfacing of each head (75$ each)

Now it doesnt overheat but i am faced with another problem. My check engine light was on before all off this for p0700 and p0740

Now i have many codes appearing after i clear them and drive for about 20 miles the light comes back on .

Codes are as follows:

700 trans control sys malfunction
171 system too lean
740 tcc circuit malfunction
562 system voltage low
300 random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

I am aware i may have a vaccum leak which could explain the lean fuel syste. Yesterday i checked the tranny fluid and it was a little low so i added some. I know the transmission pan has never been dropped and the filter has never been changed. Should i bring it to the dealer and have them do this ? I am not very mechanically inclined and considering selling this car before dumping more money into it. Any help will be greatly appreciated ! Thanks

In my opinion if you know OF the transmission oil pan and filter then you are mechanically inclined enough to do the job yourself, it's really very easy if you are able to lift the vehicle and keep it level (4 jack stands, one for each corner), and use a ratchet to remove a handful of bolts... The only tricky part (if you can call it that) is that with this car I believe there is no gasket between the pan and the tranny and you have to use RTV sealant when you reinstall, so you also must scrape off the old sealant from both mating surfaces using a plastic scraper (never use metal on metal on a sealing surface).

I'd like someone to confirm that last part since I JUST got my first intrepid last weekend and I plan on doing this myself this weekend.

You can use a metal scraper on the pan and the sealing surface for the PAN only. If you have two metal surfaces machined together like, for the valve body and such, then no metal scrapers.

Also, you don't have to get all the old material off the pan either. I'v been scraping off the loose stuff and resealing to original rtv for many years without a leak.

Your code reader is dropping a digit. The p0700 is on the PCM side referencing a TCM or EATX fault present.

The p1740 is a TCM fault in reference to the torque converter clutch circuit at fault. Either the tcc is electrically not able to function or the clutch has burned up. Either way, I don't think a filter is going to help much.
