Auburn Hills, Mich., Jan 05, 2004 -Chrysler Group today announced U.S. pricing for its all-new 2005 Dodge Magnum. Dodge Magnum offers flexibility and versatility with proportions unlike any other vehicle in the market place.

With a base MSRP of $22,495 including destination, Dodge Magnum will begin arriving in dealerships in the spring. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 5.7-liter HEMI® powered Dodge Magnum RT is $29,995, which includes destination.

"Armed with HEMI and rear-wheel drive, Dodge Magnum offers unmatched performance, packaging and price," said Darryl Jackson, Vice President, Dodge Marketing, Chrysler Group.

Dodge Magnum SE
At just $22,495 including destination, the all-new 2005 Dodge Magnum SE provides a uniquely styled, versatile vehicle. Dodge Magnum SE features the fuel efficient 190 horsepower 2.7-liter V-6 engine with a four-speed automatic transmission. All Dodge Magnum SE models include a 60/40 split rear folding seat, remote keyless entry, outside temperature display, AM/FM CD radio, manual tilt/telescoping steering column, super access lift gate, reversible cargo load floor, and body color door handles and moldings. Also available are an eight-way power driver's seat, adjustable pedals, rear cargo management system, four-wheel disc antilock brakes, all speed traction control, electronic stability control, and emergency brake assist.

Dodge Magnum SXT
Dodge Magnum SXT is the second model in the lineup adding functional content to its unmistakable, bold styling. This package includes the high output 250 horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine, four-wheel disc antilock brakes, all speed traction control, electronic stability control, emergency brake assist, eight-way power driver's seat, 17-inch aluminum wheels and sunscreen glass for $25,995 including destination. Also available is the Protection Group (including self sealing tires, front and rear side curtain airbags and an air filtration system), Boston Acoustic Premium Sound System, UConnect hands free communication system, sunroof, and heated leather seats.

Dodge Magnum RT
Dodge Magnum RT provides unmatched performance with the 340 horsepower, 390 foot-pound HEMI V-8 engine mated to an electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick®. All Dodge Magnum RT models feature 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, dual exhaust, large performance disc brakes, fog lamps, exterior chrome accents, leather seats, and Boston Acoustic Premium Sound System with six-speaker 288-watt digital amplifier. This vehicle also features 3,800 pound towing capability when properly equipped.

The 2005 Dodge Magnum RT will feature cylinder deactivation when it goes on sale in the spring of 2004. The Chrysler Group Multi Displacement System (MDS) seamlessly turns off the fuel consumption in four cylinders of the 5.7-liter HEMI engine when V-8 power is not needed. This provides a world class combination of performance and fuel economy.

All Dodge Magnum vehicles feature a short-long arm (SLA) front suspension system combined with a five-link independent rear suspension to provide excellent handling and a comfortable ride.

Dodge Magnum is built at the Company's Brampton, Ont. (Canada) manufacturing plant along with the all-new Chrysler 300 Series.

Is the R/T going to be all wheel drive or is that an option that you have to add for $3000 more?

It comes std with FWD. You have to pay for the AWD version. That puts in some tough competition. THe only way they will sell any volume is to put the Hemi in the base version at a cheap price. A $24,000 Hemi station wagon could sell and would have little competition at that price. The current price points are in a very crowded market with many great cars and trucks to compete with.

auto show

I checked out the new Magnum at the Detroit Auto Show. Beautiful car. The car is rich looking inside and out. The Mercedes crossover shows. Interior switches like the turn signal stalk and cruise control stalk are Mercedes parts. The Mercedes ESP and traction control electronics are there. Suspension, transmission, and axles are M-B parts as well. The stereo is a Chrysler unit - similar to the new Durango. I guess the 2 knob stereo will be the new corporate head unit. At least it plays MP3's. The top dog RT is $35K (more if totally loaded with nav system, wireless communications, etc.). But you are getting a Hemi V8 and a lot of M-B engineering. At this point this will be my Intrepid replacement in a couple of years.

I priced my Magnum on the Dodge website. I figured $35K with the CD/MP3 changer, convenience packages, cargo cover, sunroof, etc. I did not include the nav system or wireless communication. That would have added over $2K more.

FYI the Hemi is displacement on demand. The computer will determine 4, 6, or 8 cylinder operation depending on needs. That way you get power and fuel efficiency (unlike Pontiac's new GTO which has a gas guzzler tax).

I thought it was only 4 or 8 cylinder?

Also, in regards to your previous post, I believe the R/T is the only one that uses M-B tranny. The SE and SXT uses the same four speed tranny as in the LH cars.

I'll have to ask my father about the 4-6-8 cylinder thing. He works at the Mack Engine plant in Detroit where the Hemi is made (along with the 4.7L V8).

The 2005 Chrysler 300C will be the first modern production vehicle in North America to feature cylinder deactivation when it goes on sale in the spring of 2004. The Chrysler Group Multi Displacement System (MDS) seamlessly turns off the fuel consumption in four cylinders of the 5.7-liter HEMI engine when V-8 power is not needed. I'm assuming this means 4 or 8.
