Ok, here's the lowdown. From all indications it seems that Chrysler will not only build a rear drive LX with the HEMI for 2004/5 but also the 300 HEMI C..... Great News!

so what?

Well I was thinking... so Dodge is getting back into the police car biz, the Intrepid is probably only the first step. It makes sense that they'll eventually use the LX Rear-Drive V8 for cop cars. So......

I went and compared the 0-60 and top speed times of the 300 Hemi C concept against the current stats of the much Hyped Mercury Marauder. Turns out that even the police package Marauder is no match for that HEMI muscle.

300 Hemi C concept: 0-60: 5.9 seconds
300 Hemi C concept: Top Speed: 160mph

Mercury Marauder Police Package: 0-60: 7.5 seconds
Mercury Marauder Police Package: Top Speed: 140mph

By the way, like I didn't make it obvious enough... I'm comparing the vanilla off the factory dodge to the top of the line mercury police interceptor. HA!

Question: Isn't there a method to calculate 1/4 mile times from this?

Thanks pimped!

Ok so figure 353hp - 30% driveline loss (worst case scenario)

is 247hp at the rear wheels

Est. 1/4 mile = 14.09
Est. Speed = 96.69 mph

Ummm for one thing, the Marauder will not be the basis of the next PI. The Marauder is akin to what the Impala SS was for Chevrolet, a niche platform, near luxury with sporting performance. The Marauder is slated to get the current 4.6L SOHC found in the 2001 Cobra, around 320hp.

The next PI will no doubt still be based on the CV line, meaning a body on frame V8 RWD vehicle. Since the 2003 Cobra will be 390hp and 390lb/ft from a supercharged 4.6L and the GT will be bumped to current Cobra specs (320hp) expect the PI to be somewhere between the two. So somewhere around 340-360hp is not out of the question, especially with current and future competition in the RWD sedan catagory, which as you know, Ford never abandoned like GM and Chrysler.

Also, the PI is basically the same as the Crown Victoria Sport, except with the addition of the heavy duty equipment. (Radiator, trans cooler, alternator, etc.) So expect the next generation (2004-5) CV Sport and the freshened Marauder to be sporting the numbers quoted above.

I don't know about u guys but here in Canada performance is second to price for cruisers.
We in Toronto recently got Impala cruisers with 3.1L engines instead of the 3.4L simply for the price. With all that extra police stuff, the impala weighs more and creates more drag than stock impala's and is therefore slower. It does however have a stiffer suspension.

LHSer:
Ummm for one thing, the Marauder will not be the basis of the next PI.

CrownVic.net:
"No longer a concept car, the Marauder is scheduled for production release in April 2002. What makes this monochromatic Grand Marquis with big tires so special is the power plant: a 4.6L DOHC V-8 rated at 300 HP. The Police Interceptor uses a 4.6L SOHC V-8 with 235 HP."

further:

The use of the 4.6L DOHC V-8 in the Police Interceptor is by no means certain. However, 80% of the development to place the engine in the police car is already done in installing the engine in the retail Marauder

LHSer:
So somewhere around 340-360hp is not out of the question,

CrownVic.net:
(again)"The Police Interceptor uses a 4.6L SOHC V-8 with 235 HP"

"The 300 HP Marauder comes with a 3.55 rear gear and is limited to 120 mph. The police version will use the 3.27 rear gears. A Police Interceptor with the Marauder engine and Police Interceptor gearing is estimated to reach 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds and have a top speed of 140 mph."

I made sure to get my facts straight. Did you? Perhaps you'd like to debate it with the folks at www.lawandordermag.com which is where the Crownvic.net people pulled the story.

LHSER I think you are on the money. I heard that the new Merc would be 348hp.
