Hello,

I just bought a 1999 LHS yesterday and the first site I found while trying to look up some information was this outstanding forum. I figured I might as well join up and stick around.

I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow to add to this initial thread, but I didn't want to wait to post and thank the forum already for the wealth of information I've found and already put to good use. Given that it didn't have a user's manual (I've ordered one from Ebay), I'll pretty happy to have learned the following already:
  • Run the diagnostic codes via the ignition key and it all came up clear.
  • Run the diagnostic codes for the automatic A/C and it came up aces as well.
  • Learned to never again touch Armor-All for the rest of my days.
  • Found out how to program my integrated garage door openers. Actually, I learned of the company to request the information from, but they already responded today, which is further along than I'd be without this forum.
  • Just read a lot of great ideas/suggestions overall. Outstanding site!
A little about my car. It is a 1999 Chrysler LHS with power sunroof with sun shade, the 17" chrome wheels, and the enhanced audio system. It's color I believe is officially called bright platinum and it has a tan interior. 72,500 miles on it so far. Overall it is in very good shape, but does have a few chips on the exterior and that black strip across the end of the hood near the window is going to need replacing. The interior is in good shape. There is some grime in the leather which I am going to gingerly hit with a mini-steamer and rag. Just stopped by a Chrysler dealer today and confirmed that all applicable recalls have indeed already been performed on it, and got a front licence plate grill (required by law).

My previous car was a 99 Escort ZX/2, which I was just beginning to look downright silly in because I've put on some pounds the last few years. I had intended on getting a 2002 Taurus or Sable, but when I saw this baby I just couldn't say no! I swear I think my old Escort would fit in the trunk of this behemoth. :biglaugh:

Anyway, looking forward to spending time in the forums!

BHS, Welcome to the site! Sounds like you got a great LHS there, I am looking forward to seeing the photos. Just a quick question and pardon my ignorance, what is a front license plate grill? -CW

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say grill. It's a front licence plate bracket that mounted onto the grill right below the Chrysler "wing". Missouri requires a license plate on both the front and back of a vehicle.

And yeah, I'm still quite giddy about the car! As Badasstrep said, big improvement over an escort.

Woot! Another 2G LHS!! :D

Welcome to DI.net! Sounds exactly like my car except for the color ;)

I replaced that molding at the end of the hood, because mine was faded like yours... I bought an aftermarket one off of ebay, it was ~$100. It was poorly manufactured, and the clips that hold it down broke off already. I have some automotive glue holding it down. I know, glue is not the best idea, but it's been holding just fine for over 6 months now, so i'm not worried about it... Just be wary of the aftermarket stuff... If i had to do it again i would have bought a OEM piece, even though it probably would've cost twice what it did.

Welcome to the site.

I was the original, and for long time only LHS owner on these forums. I had a 1994, and I was known as LHSer back then.

Enjoy your stay.

First, thanks to everybody for the warm welcomes! Second, sorry but it was a very long day and I just didn't have time to get any pictures before it got dark out. I absolutely promise I'll get some tomorrow.

Front plate bracket

BHS, not a problem, I just wondered where you were from that there was anything called a front license plate grill. ;-)
Nice step up from Escort-land! Get some rest and we'll see the pics soon I am sure. -CW

That's a bit different from anything i've ever seen:

Is that a two-tone interior? The top half looks like the same color as mine, but the lower half is a lighter color...

Here is my interior for reference:

Welcome to the site BHS! The car looks great! Like LHSDriver, I've never seen one with a two-tone interior, but it looks really cool!

You know, I'm a bit ashamed to admit this, but it didn't even click with me that I had a two-tone interior. I just went outside and checked to make sure since I thought maybe the sun was affecting the picture above, but it is indeed a two-tone.

The carpeting, upper half of the dash, headliner, and upper doors are the dark and the rest is light. I just checked at cars.com and it shows the possible interior colors for the 1999 as "Light Pearl Beige", "Camel/Tan", and "Agate". The same for 2000. In 2001, the options were "Sandstone", "Light Taupe" and "Dark Slate Gray". I guess it's the Camel/Tan.
