I got a nice present this week, a friend of mine dropped off his Compaq Proliant server to have me look at it (Dual p2-400's, 256K ram, tape drive, ultra wide SCSI, redundant power supply..the works) A couple weeks go by and I keep reminding him it's here, everything is working and what does he want to do with it. Thursday night I'm talking to him and remind him again of the server, his response "I owe you about a dozen favors, keep it, Merry Christmas" WOOOHOO!!

Now I can finally replace my p-200 IBM server with this one. The only decision I have to make is whether to go NT 4.0 (like my old servers) Win2Kpro (which I think I will do for USB support) or bite the bullet and drop the coin for XP.

Decisions, decision, decisions....

Yeah, Win2K looks like my best bet for three reasons

1: USB Support (to plug in my external CD-Burner

2: I am already sick of NT 4.0 on my existing server

and the biggest reason
3: I already own a copy so I don't have to spend any $$ to get the server running

I'll be happy to have a REAL server as the backbone of my network, the IBM was stable but old.
