Howdy y'all! Just picked up a 97 for $750. It's going to need a lot of TLC. So I'm here for as much knowledge as I can borrow!!

Good:
Engine is strong
Only 113k miles
No apparent exhaust leaks
No chips or cracks in any window
Alignment
A/C ain't too bad

Bad:
Motor mounts
Trans mount
Trans oil pan leak
Engine oil pan leak
Valve covers weeping
Trans leak (other)
Power steering leak
Possible bad belt pulley
Side mirrors broken and screwed on
E-brake light always on
Suspension is shot
PCV hose dry rot
Constant squeak from front drivers tire unless apply brakes lightly

I'm hoping to go to the junkyard this weekend to find some parts. I'll also be ordering the following from rockauto this weekend.
Motor mounts
Trans mount
Valve cover gaskets
Trans & Eng oil pans gaskets
Air filter
Oil filter
Maybe the power steering hose that's leaking

I look forward to speaking with y'all and getting this car running right!!

Many should be relatively inexpensive fixes. Some others could be a PITA due to lack of parts...both OEM and aftermarket.

Oil pan gasket will be a PITA if it's a 3.5, don't know about 3.3s, rear shocks too. Maybe a sticking caliper. PS leak, hope it's not the rack...

When you do the valve covers, just go ahead and do the lower intake manifold gasket and injector seals too. Use fel-pro gaskets.

E-brake light always on could be insidious. Could just be a faulty switch for it but it also will come on if you have low brake fluid or low brake pressure...

I got both motor mounts, transmission mount, (pressure??) power steering hose, transmission filter kit, eng oil pan gasket, both headlight assemblies (not mounts, but need those too), PCV hose, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and wires all for just under $100 from Rock Auto. Hell the shipping was just over $40 bringing my total to just under $150. Which is WAAAAY less than I would have paid at a chain store. I price compared when Rock Auto hit me with the $40 shipping.

So far I have only completed the Trans Oil filter and gasket, the Trans mount, drivers side eng mount. Gotta finish installing the passenger side engine mount, oil pan gasket, and then Im out from under the car!

Oh, and there was a substantial trans fluid leak... I found a hole in the case, but it was in an area I was able to JB weld. (I know its not the best fix, but its the best fix for my budget. I got suckered....) Oh well!

I also drained the gear lube from the transaxle so I can put some fresh stuff in. So I gotta make sure I remember that too!! I hope to have it all done by this coming weekend.

At least you won't be bored lol

I love me some FelPro gaskets!! The ebrake is of little concern right now, but thanks for the heads up! I will check into the fluid level..
