Report: Chrysler to expand warranties to seven years

Move would match Korean automakers

DETROIT, Nov. 1 — Following the lead of Korean automakers, DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler Group is going to start offering 7-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranties on all of its vehicles sold through Dec. 31.

USA TODAY REPORTED in its Thursday edition that the move will be announced today by Chrysler. Currently, the company offers 3-year, 36,000-mile warranties.
Other car companies have followed the lead of Korean companies Hyundai, Kia and Daewoo, including Germany’s Volkswagen AG, which offers a 4-year, 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and General Motors, which has a 5-year, 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
George Murphy, Chrysler senior vice president of global marketing, told the newspaper that the company is considering the new warranty as a “major move down the road.”

not much of an article, and i wonder if it applies to cars bought within the past few months...
