I see people mentioning these ACE chips and raising some good questions on weather or not they can be programed to ad a turbo to the 3.5. I myself would prefer a supercharger and would like to know if ace could help with that set up. But the main reason i'm writing this is because of NOS. Does anyone here have it? And if not, Why not? Its cheap,works great and is perfect for the intrepid seeing how nothing is offered for these cars performance wise. I have to believe that it can be done using a NOS setup for a 5.0 mustang. I have an article in a mag where a guy installed a mustang kit on mitsubishi galant. He got a great boost of power from it and used NOS simply because there was no aftermarket bolt-ons for his car(like the intrepid?) I believe this would work even better for the intrepids 3.5 sence it and the 5.0(90's) have the same ponies at 214hp. just food for thought. let me know what ya think

I've run NOS in my younger stupider days, it is a great power adder and yes the Mustang and the Intrepid both run a throttle body injection system so the install would not be to hard to do.

Things to consider
1: as already mentioned, transmission, this is not that much of an issue if you run a small shot of NOS (don't even look at the 150+HP kits)and don't hit it until after 3,000 RPM.

2: timing, I owned a 89 5.0 and know that the factory computer timing curves will handle small shots of NOS and adjust accordingly, I'm not sure if the Intrepid is the same. If the timing does not adjust you will experience pre-detonation which will blow your motor very easily

3: warranty, most 2nd gen guys will not do any mods that will void the warranty, I can assure you that no dealer will honor engine work under warranty if he sees that port drilled into the throttle body

but, I have heard of a couple 300M guys who "claim" they are running a bottle so maybe if we keep searching we can use their trial and errors to guide the way

Hey accord Killer.......I was going to ask ACE Chips about programming the computer to run under turbo too. I think it would be fairly simple to throw a turbo on tour cars (other than sensors and computer work!!!)

The plumbing would be fairly easy, compared to a super which you would have to screw around with pulleys, belts, and other crap.

Have you asked them about a turbo computer mod yet? If not, I will, and if they say no to either of us, maybe we can have a bunch of us contact them and then maybe they will do it....

Hey, not sure if you or anybody else knows, but would it just be a computer re-program, or would we need to replace the MAP sensor with a boost sensor/gauge, sice it would need to measure pressures above atmospheric??

i definately don't know much about turbos, but it seems like we'd need a twin-turbo setup because of exhaust coming off each bank of cylinders, this unless you were thinking of running the tube back to the intake from after the 3rd cat at which point there's only a single exhaust pipe. this seems like it would be ugly and horribly inefficient. someone please clarify how fitting a single turbo would work.

I agree w/warlord on the poor tranny. It might handle a SMALL shot of NOS but im not sure if it could handle a turbo/supercharger.

I see it like this. Screw the tranny to a point. I'm not talking about a 100 shot of NOS but maybe 40-60 shot or so. I think it would hold up. These trannys seem to have most 1st gens walking on egg shells. I'm beginning to think its about time to toughen up and take charge. Kick that tranny right in the ass and tell it to take it like a man. Why be scared anymore? Look around, the value of our cars is going down bad regardless of how much we love them. not to mention they are coming of age and parts(like a tranny) can be found at the local junkyard(from wrecked intrepids). Its a shame B&M dont tinker around with making a shift kit or something to improve it. Though I figure msd ignition,dual exhaust,k&n intake,performance chip and a 50 shot or so of NOS and you could have yourself a nice 300 hp or so to talk about in the kills section. But has anyone come up with any ideas for the cheapest hp gain without destroying the intrepid(wieght reduction)?
Djnrg: No I havent contacted ACE chips but will look them up. I was on JACOBS ELECTRONICS ass for a while to come out with something but gave up on them about a year ago. I've only put 2,000 miles on my 95 in the last 2 yrs I've been in Italy and have just recently decided to go ahead and fix it up. So I'll be hounding all kinds of companies and shops.
