My manual recommends 5/30w, but a friend has recommended changing to 20/50 due to being over 100,000 miles.Should I switch or not?

I recommend you dont listen to your friend.5-30 in the winter,10-30 in the summer.Do a search on the "2.7 sludge" and decide wether you want to run synthetic or not.

If your friend talks you into it :listen: you may become familiar with this little animation.....

No. If you live in a warm climate, you could go to 10W-30, but all in all it's best to stay with 5W-30 until the car shows a definite need for thicker oil (burning too much).

depends on how many miles you have. I use 10W-30 Mobil1 in my 2001 2.7 since around 30k and it's still running great at 98k. I live in Upstate NYby the way.

5W30 Mobile-1 is the way to go!

I've had my 2K 2.7 Trep for 3 years and have 72,000 miles on her. Been Running Mobil-1 since day one. This engine purs with Mobil-1 and a K&N air filter. I'd say stick with 5-30 synth.

My mother's Trep on the other hand blew the 2.7 at 36,003 miles. It must have been programmed. Though she used 10-30 bulk oil and changed it like every 10,000 miles.
