I've been looking to trade in my 'trep for a newer model lately, and have not been able to find what I am looking for??

I've been to a few dealers in my area, and not one of the have an Intrepid with the overhead console??

From what i understand, the R/T does not have this option available, and I'd assume the same from the SE? But I cannot even find another ES that has one?

What I'm looking for is a black ES with a sunroof and all the options (except spoiler, I want to get the curved style :) ) Preferably a 2000 or 2K1.

So far I've had no luck :(

Getting rid of the silver bullet?

I haven't seen alot of black Intrepids, but the one's I have seen are nice. You are going to keep all your goodies of your current one I hope? (bra, ventvisors, ...etc..)

Goodluck!

Isnt there a way to install an overhead console on a 2nd gen Intrepid that does not have one? I know the SE and R/T models do not have them. I thought its standard on the ES. Could be wrong.

I wouldnt mind adding an overhead console. I think it looks pretty cool.

I checked out about 5 or 6 ES's the other day, and none had the overhead console? They did all have sunroof's, so I was wondering that maybe they leave out the console if you have a sunroof??

Anyone got any info?

I doubt that because ive seen plenty of 300Ms that have the console and the Sunroof... and its pretty much the same console and sunroff controls used on both cars.

Plus I think i faintly remember seeing a really loaded up ES sitting in a Dodge dealer's showroom when i was looking to buy, and im almost positive that ES has the sunroof and the overhead console. It is probable that the console is optional. Maybe if someone checks out the dodge site to confirm. I may look later on after i finish some work here.

I don't understand why it's not an option for the R/T?? The 2 things holding me back from looking at an R/T are:

1: No overhead console
2: Nothing behind the back window (i.e. ES)

I know that these may be small things, but they really bug me if they are not there :(

I think the main reason why there wasnt an overhead console option in the R/T... is one of two reasons.... they probably wanted to keep costs down (even as an option)... and an overhead console i think reflects more of a "family/luxury" car (which is why its standard on a 300M), rather than a racing type. I still want one though, but I was not going to sacrifice getting an R/T just because of an overhead console. :O)

Not having the R/T on the black panel next to the back window is wise. It looks much better on the door. Having it on that panel makes the car looks "cheaper".

I agree with you because the 98-99 base models had no badge there, thus making it easier to determine the ES models.

Now, it's tough as nails because they are placing SE badges there.

I guess the reason I like the ES behind the window, is because when I bought mine, there were only 2 models available, the ES and the SE.

The SE was cheaper and didn't have anything on the panel behind the window, so I guess I associate the cheaper Intrepid's with nothing on that panel.

But now that has changed a little, but I still feel that way. Habits are hard to break :)

The overhead console and lettering behind the windows are 2 very easy things to add to the R/T if you want to get one, not to mention the fact that you'll be getting a car that about a full second faster in the 1/4 mile :) You can order some extra lettering from a dealer and stick it behind the window, and you can get a overhead console from a junk yard for alot cheaper than it would be to get as an option.

There's a Black R/T in front of the dealer down the street.

I didn't know you could buy the lettering from the dealer?

How hard is the install of the overhead console?

Then again, the 3.2 engine is big enough for me, I like to have the biggest engine, but it's not necessary for me.

What to do?

Man o man. Don't let the rt logo on the back side window and overhead console deter you from buying the RT. I really do not care to know how lousy the gas mileage is, nor do I want to know how damn cold it is outside in winter and if you don't know which direction you're driving, you shouldn't be. Ha! The RT with the huge exhaust, fancier wheels draws compliments all the time. The enhanced suspension, steering, brakes, tranny and all else is worth more than the amenities included in the fully optioned ES. You won't miss the lettering or the console while passing all the other cars on the road.
I have a 2001 Black RT. What a pain to keep clean and those swirl marks, ouchhhh!!! Still, it looks great.
My Canadian 2 cents worth.

I definitely agree with Danny... and this is what I was saying earlier. I was not going to sacrifice an R/T to get an overhead console.

However.... :)

Brad: How simple is installing an overhead console once you get one from a junkyard. What features does it give you?
