I dont have a neon around my deck. The outside of the CD player glows around the face and the display is a brights blue, heres a close up (sorry the pic is kinda crappy)...

hey man austin from independence iowa - i was jsut wondering how you hooked those up to the cigarette lighter if you could could you give me instructions on how to install them?

I didnt hook them up to the cig lighter....i chopped the ends off and wired them to a switch. My switch is an illuminated one so there are 3 prongs on it. you twist the positives togther and negatives together from the neons. hook the negatives to the negative prong on the switch then run a grounded wire to the same prong. then run a 12V power source to the 12V prong (they should be labeled on the switch). and last run the postives from the neons to the last remaining prong. its been a while since i did it so i hope i told ya right, lol :) :p

Try this: Check the wiring diagram for your H/U, there should be a lead to connect to your headlights switch, when it senses 12 volts it will dim the display on the stereo. Most of the newer units that have bright displays have this option. I had the same problem with my Alpine CDA-D853.
