In some threads I found directions to program the keyless entry remote on first Gen LH models via the Data Link Connector. I followed these steps and now have major problems. I have a 1996 3.5L V6 and I performed the following steps.

1. Grounded the #1 wire on the dataport under my steering wheel.
2. Got in the car and turned the ignition to the on position.
3. Nothing happened the power locks did not cycle at all.
4. I tried to click on the keyless entry to no avail.
5. I removed the grounded wire to find that the radio, power locks and my interior dome light all do not work. Further now whenever I start the car, the heat automatically turns on.

So I checked the following items:
1. The relay works. I switched it with the horn relay and it appears to be fine.
2. I checked all fuses and they are all fine as well.
3. I pulled the ground off the battery thinking that might recycle any programming mode I might be stuck in.
4. I took the door apart and checked the power lock solenoid, there doesn't appear to be any voltage there.
5. Now whenever I start the car the heat automatically comes on, before it would remember the last state it was in, on or off.

Have someone any idea what went wrong and how to solve it?
Any help is appreciated.

Maybe next time you should only post your question in one forum and then see if you get a better response. You're not the only one here so ask a question once and if it doesn't get answered then deal with it. Nobody likes to sift through duplicate posts just because you think your question is so important.

You have blown the fuse for BCM/PCM.
Regardless of what you say that you didn't.
Double check the fuse box again. (Kick panel Interior fuse box.)
I guarantee you. Take them out one by one. You will find that it's blown.

This is NOT the way to program RKE. The way you prgram RKE is thru the traction control wires/switch.

The fuse that you blew protects BCM/PCM from blowing up when idiots follow wrong instructions. No offense to you, I did the same thing. We're both idiots for following that How To. But whoever posted the thing to program thru datalink should 've followed up with "Only on some cars."

Grounding pin #1 should work on 96 & 97 models. I think the problem was that you may have grounded pin # 16 which is on the opposite corner of the connector. Pin # 16 is B+ fed from the IOD fuse. It also feeds the BCM as JE.Electronics stated.

I think you can program RKE thru Trac Switch for all models of 1G (1993-1997).
Correct?
Why mess with the DLC?

Thanks for help. I do have Traction ctrl. but only 3 Terminals of my 6 pin connector are used and there is no green wire for the RKE so I cannot do it via the Traction ctrl. connector. I think the only way to do it is via the DLC.

Alright.

I'm just saying, did you fix your blown fuse?

I think you ground Pin 1 with Pin 3 on TCS. REgardless of RKE green wire programming instructions. Hold 1 and 3 together and wait for Door locks to cycle.
