A kid I know in my Study hall period over heard me and this girl talking about how I smoked her on 275 in her Ranger XLT. He buts in and says, I could smoke both of you. And he goes, what do you drive to me, and I said Dodge Intrepid ES. He laughed and said I could smoke that thing easily. I said, probably could, but what do you drive? He said thunderbird, V8. Its a newer T-Bird to, I think 95-96. I said ohh, ok you could probably tear me up. And I kept talking to the girl.

So motorheads, do I have even a slim chance against him? I kept my mouth shut when he told me V8, so I dont have any trash to back up. I would like to beat him though, a 3.5L V6 beating a V8 would be cool.

Would you lose? Probably.
By a lot? Probably not too much!
95 and 96 v8's were the 4.6, definitely worse than the 5.0's.. 205hp, 265ft/lbs, 3500 lb car, 0-60 in 8.4 seconds. Race him from a rolling start, that'll eliminate any advantage he might have with all that torque ;)

It would most likely be from a rolling start. That 4.6 only pushes 205HP?!?!? My intrepid pushes 220 i'm estimating (adding 6hp because of cone air filter) from a V6. How come i can't beat him?

unheraldedly optimistic. maybe 1-2 hp. you can't beat him cuz of his low end torque. he'd take you off the line and you would probably equal his acceleration after 30mph or so but he'd be probably a length ahead and you'd never catch him. that is, unless his engine ****, which is highly likely since it is a FERD.

Here's the important part, it doesn't matter whether you can beat him or not because you already have the girl

I don't want to make this sound like a dating topic but to me it sounds like you already won, she kept talking to you after he butted in therefore she wasn't that interested in your car

LOL. She is already taken, and my girlfriend (in my opinion) is much cuter than her. I'm just really good friends with this girl.

and too optimistic for the cone filter? These companies lie out the ass then. They say it gives you 5-10hp increase. But I believe what you said 97 Sport, because the car just accelerates a little faster than it did with the airbox and it just sounds nicer...

How do we go about adding more low end torque to our cars then to match the Fords?

Add two cylinders or increase the stroke of the pistons. :)

1995 Ford Thunderbird 4.6L V8

HP: [email protected]
TQ: 280lb/[email protected]
Weight: 3506lbs

Now, since it is the 4.6L, those engines are very responsive to mods, simply because the first ones came so restricted from the factory. Gains of 30+hp by simply changing the intake and exhaust are not unheard of and in fact, very common. I'd becareful.

I'd also becareful in a race from a standing start, or a roll, from experience driving that particular car, the torque band is very smooth and there is GOBS of torque when the car is in motion.

He might surprise you, but I say give it a go, you've got nothing to lose.

PS. If it was a Thunderbird SC, I would stay away. 3.8L supercharged engine, 230hp bone stock. Change out the charger pulley, add exhaust, induction and ignition and your looking at 300hp easy.

Id say give it a go. He thinks he gonna smoke you, so even if you lose you know it wont be but a whole lot. At least you can suprise him on how well your "family" car performs. :)

I have a Gen 1 and Gen 2. I raced him in in the Gen 1 that night. It is an ES with the 3.5 liter.

Interesting note though:
When we raced on an empty highway stretch with my Gen 2 with the 2.7 liter we matched. The thing is the 2.7 liter can rev high and hold it where the 3.5 liter is stronger but can rev up as high for long. Only problem with the 2.7 is acceleration off the line. The T Bird destroyed me.

Yeah, but you got a chip and dual exhaust. I'm all stock except for a cone. Next time he talks smack, I'll say something for sure though.
