Relatively new owner. Which gets replaced first? Ultimately both have to go but I'm trying to figure out what makes for the better improvement in sound first? Anyone just done one or the other? Oh, it's the stock system. Thanks for any help.

Do the radio first. I have the Infinity system in mine and the speakers actually sounded decent with a good head unit. Good speakers and a stock radio can still make for crappy sound.

I'd definately have to say go for the stereo first. There is a difference in the quality of speakers, but not nearly as much as there is in the head unit.

I would definately agree w/ the head unit. I took out the stock and put in a Sony Xplod cd player and it sounded so much better, and a lot louder. I still have the stock speakers in, but added a 12" MTX in the trunk and I love the way it sounds.

I would have to say the head unit also. But only because the stock radio/tape player has no power. I put in the tape/radio/cd player (chrysler) that is rated at a higher RMS and its sounds better, punches the bass and better highs. It depends on your cash flow also and what look you want in the car. I did not care for the aftermarket look, so I layed out more cash for the factory player ($250). Getting a head unit with more power will make it sound a little better, but its still the speakers that make the sound. As any audio mag will tell ya, always put the money into the speakers as the (radio, amp, etc) all do basically the same. So it's really your call.

I would have to disagree with you guys and say do the speakers first. I Left my stock head unit in, and put 2 JL Evolution 6X9's in the back, and 2 Alpine 5&1/4's in the doors. The sound quality difference was huge! The bass coming out of the JL's even with the stock head unit was great. Of course, if you REALLY crank it up, you will still get a bit of distortion, but I noticed a huge diff. when I changed the speakers. But of course, when you finally change the head unit, the sound will be better and louder. I know everyone else says do the head unit first, but if you have a million dollar stereo and crappy speakers, you are going to get crappy sound! The speakers make a huge difference in sound, and although a high quality deck will make a difference as well, the difference between a stock head unit and an Alpine head unit for example, are not as large as the difference between stock speakers and some good JL's or alpines!
Try the speakers first. Trust me, you will be happy with it.......but then 2 months later you will want to spend 2 grand on an entire new system like i did! ha! so much for university money...

Question.

I have the Infinity 240 watt w/4cd changer. The manual says that once a CD is done, the next CD then starts to paly. Does this feature only work with pre-recorded CDs or will it work with computer generated Cds? I use omly my own recorded CDs and at the end of the last track on any CD, it does not automatically proceed to the next disc. I have to do it manually. Not a big deal but just wondering.

CapitalCityRT- Mine changes over to the next cd, I have a cd that I burned myself in number 4 of the CD changer and it does start to play number, you may want to check to see if the repeat function is set if there is one on these radios.

I changed the speakers and notice a huge difference in the sound quality. I'm adding an amp on Wendsday but I'm keeping the stock radio since I did wind up paying extra for it. I also like the way the Cd changer looks in the dash.

Thanks for the reply.
It does s**t. At the end of the CD, it does not advance to the next. No repeat function and it doesn't repeat either.
Guess I'll bring it up at the next visit to the dealer.
The stock speakers, are they Infinity Reference series or what? I know they are not Kappa. Is there another series below the Reference?
I would love to change them but being a leased car and all, it is not worth it.

i just replaced the stock deck in my sport yesterday morning with a pioneer - much better sound. i think a lot of the better sound is due to the greater control precision you have with a real equalizer. i'm planning on getting some new fronts for my ride but before i tear up the back deck to install new 6x9s i'm going to try building a small box for them. i have a friend that works at a car audio shop and we dicked around with a box and it was definately a noticeable and desired change. i'll probably end up with new rears anyway someday but for now the box is a cheap alternative if you know how to rig it.
