I just have to make a comment about the whole "ricer" term. It seems to me if I remember right that the "ricer" cars were the first to use the neon lights in their car. Then I am reading the posts and it seems like a lot of the same peopl;e that are slamming ricers are the same people that are talking about putting neon lights in their cars. Oh, and who first used the blue headlights? Hmm, ricer again, but people that slam the ricers are talking about putting them in their car too. Now don't get me wrong I am not a fan of the ricers, but I don't go slamming them and then using the same things on my car. Now the things that they do have a purpose. The fart cans as they atre affectionately called give a much freer flow. But how good can a 4 banger sound. That's what I thought. We could put the same muffler on our car and it would sound decent because of the added cylinders. There are quite a few ricers that would just blow the doors off our cars without to much work. However I wwould not want one because I could not fit my big self in one comfortably. Also it is cheaper to get one of those little things to go fast and to maintain it than a car like ours so that may be why they went that route. Just thought I wouldd stir up a little controversy here. I haven't seen any lately. :D

If you think a "fart cans" do anything for performance you don't have a clue! Think about the cfm your little 4 banger puts out and then stick a 4 " tip on it. Ha Ha. By the time the exhaust get to the can the velocity is so low it has no impact, other than sounding silly and giving us all something to laugh at!

Ricer, any car modified in a way that does not actually improve performance with "performance mods" or is a missrepresentation of what it really is. (stickers of parts it does not really have)
The imfamous Type R sticker!! is #1

Neon isn't reall equated with rice...its been a popular add-on for years, It didnt start with "Import Performance" scene, in fact it really started with the hot-rodders and car stereo guys..

"Blue" headlights are a factory installed option on some cars, when they are the real deal they are fantastic, when they are off the shelf halogen bulbs painted blue, they are rice.

The term "rice" or "riceboy" has more to do with trying to make your car look fast, without actually doing anything to the car to make it faster. Huge exhaust tips, Type "R" stickers, fake hood pins, Huge rear spoliers on front wheel drive cars, horribly contrasting colors, and excessive stickers are all symptoms of "rice" but the attiude of the driver has a lot to do with it too..

"My civic is mad tite yo, I beat corvettes and vipers all the time"

"All american cars are ****, slow and are gas guzzlers"

and my favorite,

"What kind of car do you drive? I'll bet its slow"

So has anyone ever posted a message just to see what the response is? Once in a while I love just making a off the wall comment just to get people stirred up and everything. I really don't like those cars, but felt like seeing some good comments. It is also good to see who really knows what they are talking about. In reality the exhaust system on a stock 4 is much to restrictive. However putting 3 inch with a 4 inch tip is overboard and causes serious torque loss. If they simply went say a 2" sytem with a small muffler they would be far better off. Funny thing, I had a mit. Eclipse come in the shop the other day and he wanted a 3 inch with a 4-5 inch tip put on. The funny thing is that he hooked it up behind the stock converter. Oh, he also had a big spoiler on the back. He also wanted us to put a short throw shifter in. We told him that was a big no on the shifter. Why would a guy hook up an exhaust that is bigger that the pipe coming into it. That is like putting dual exhaust on my brother's Suzuki 400 (It's a one cylinder). Oh he had ceramic exhaust too. Funniest thing is my 15 dollar exhaust change probably had more of an effect than his 800 did. THat ncar is what made me feel like getting this going.

heres something else to keep in mind, a lot of those gigantic tailpipes on the back of those things are just bolt ons that stick on the smaller pipe and serve no purpose other than being cosmetic.

I wonder if the "ricers" (and I don't mean to invoke a stereotype with any disrespect) would call the new Stratus an American car and call it slow. After all, it is basically a reskinned, rebadged Mitsubishi Eclipse (obviously we're talking about the coupe). ;)

Anyway, when I used to work in Milwaukee I would see lots of "ricer" cars. However, a small number of them were driven by Asian-Americans, which is why "rice" is a part of their label. A lot of them were driven by ordinary white caucasian males and rarely did they beat me at the stop light! :D

And, bear in mind, I was beating them with my "lowly" 95 Intrepid 3.3L (no mods). :D

I don't like the noise they get fromthe "fart cans", but I have to admit even if the car isn't fast, I've seen some hot Hondas....

I have to admit that there are a few "Ricers" out there that I do respect, but I'd say 95 percent of them are all show no go. Every once in a while there will be one that can kick some serious butt, but I still would never want one. Just the sound of them is bad enough. If I got spoked rims and put baseball cards in them it would sound better. :p

I agree that there are a few ricers out there that are respectable. I'm sure most of you have seen the movie "fast and the furious", and that pretty much says it all. It takes $80k to $100k to turn a honda, acura, or toyota into a really fast car. And there are people who do it. My uncle own's a shop and is more honda/acura certified than anything else (although he is a very good mechanic on the american cars too). He knows this guy who took a base '98 honda civic, brand new, ripped the whole thing apart and had an integra 1.8L vtec put in it and had just about all the mods done to it.. ie: turbo, headers, exhaust, etc etc. It's those people that deserve the respect because they are taking a car and completely redoing the whole thing... not just a sticker here, a spoiler there, a "euro-look" headlight here, and a half-ass exuast mod there. Yes, there are the respectable ones that make their car look good... and that's their objective, to make the car look good. The ones that are lame are the ones that make their car look fast. But reguardless of any mods, it's just plain boring to see the same cars over and over again. That's one reason I got the Intrepid is because for every Intrepid I see on the road, I see about 20 civics. I use to love the PT cruiser, but now that they are too popular, I have lost interest. But don't get me wrong, even if the Intrepid became as popular as the taurus, I would still love it because it is a damn good looking car. :)

Let's talk about "Factory Rice" i.e. the new Celica (an already bugly car) Action Package. Here's Toyota's line: "Looks Fast"

One car that I absolutely hate (I'm sure there aren't many that agree with me though) is the Lexus IS (now the IS300). It comes "pre-riced, so you don't have to". Yeah, I'm sure it has pep, with the toyota 3.0L V6 with 210hp, and it's nice that a company is taking advantage of the new altezza style tail-light fad, but it's still a lexus... and a riced out lexus is even worse than a regular lexus. Anyways, that's my 2 cents on that.

my friend's mom has one of those. it's a POS. i'd take one on any day and expect to win. not sure what their top speed is but i'm sure that a 1st gen 3.5 and for sure a 3.2 could reach 120 (118?) before the IS.

if i'm not mistaken someone posted an IS kill elsewhere...it might have been buschman in that slick blue r/t, not sure.

I have to mention this because everytime I think about it I still laugh my ass off. A couple of weeks ago I saw a half-assed riced out Ford Escort and Ford Mustang. Both them cars looked really ugly with the European clear out tail lights (especially that Mustang).

I too have respect for the very few who take their car apart and mod it so that it just doesn't look fast, it is fast. But like I've said before, and so have others, most ricers are all bark and no bite.

Damn Ricers:
That Civic was no ricer. It was very tastefully done and fast as hell. According to the post (written by the Corvette owner) the Civic handed him his ass quite easilly... :D
