Hi Everyone:

I need a little extra hauling capacity in my '01 Intrepid and was
considering the factory removable roof-rack. ( I did not get the 60/40
seats and am regretting the decision.) I bought the car in June so this
is an aftermarket purchase. I don't want the thing on the roof all the
time - just when I need it for hauling molding from Home Depot or taking
bikes to the park.

Has anyone bought one of these and does it work well with light items?
Can it be removed? Are there aftermarket alternatives?

Any help would be appreciated and thank's in advance.

I am a long time Yakima roof rack user. Absolutely the best system out there. A pain to install initially but once set, it can be installed and reinstalled with minimal fuss. Of course I never take mine off since I bike a lot. Racks are noisy and eat gas mileage so I use a wind fairing. Yakima is more expensive than the Mopar rack but higher quality and more versatile. You can add mounts for lumbar, bikes, skis, canoes, etc. The Mopar setup is limited to bikes and skis only. Check it out www.yakima.com :)
