From this week's Nascar Scene:

Rusty Wallace was testing at Talledega and decided to take off the restrictor plate to see what he could run. He hit 228 mph on
the straightaway and was averaing 216 a lap. He said he lifted off
in the turns, which they usually don't do, because he wasn't sure what the car would do at that speed. He also said 230 should be possible if he could get through the turns a little quicker.

He also said after a few laps he went in to have the tires checked and they were shot !!!

That's too fast. Imagine the big one there when they're running in the 220's. Wow.

yea, i saw that last week in our local paper...crazy...but i think those speeds sure would make it more fun..but there wouldnt be "the big one" per se, since the cars wont ALL run the same speed
