When I picked up my car in December, I had to add collision and comprehensive to my policy. Now keep in mind that I've been with this company for 8 years. I'm 49 years old, haven't had a ticket since 1987, on an accident since 1979, and that was a fender-bender that wasn't my fault.

They came back with $2300 a year. I said I thought that was a little high. They said the R/T is a performance car, blah blah blah...

So this year I went to my agent to see what he could do for me. I've now got BETTER COVERAGE for $1600 a year!

Many insurance companies these days use "credit based" rates. So if you pay your bills, and you're a good driver, it pays to shop around.

They said R/T was "performance"?

Was this Geico cause thats what I have and I have a nice $100/6mo performance surcharge on there. Blows chunks... but in NYC you will pay up the roof no matter what happens.

My co-worker is so f*cked. He got caught doing 105 on the Long Island Expressway out on the east end. Lost his licence for two months. He is getting it back on Monday, and he now has to pay somewhere in the range of $5000/yr easy for just LIABILITY.

Morale of the story... don't drive fast or this could be you. ;)

If you can afford the 120k to buy one as a summer car, you can afford the insurance... But I bet it's close to what you one years payments on your CAR!

With me as a driver, in Ottawa, no tickets/accidents...

$5016.00 + Tax / Year ..... not too bad, but still.. OUCH!

Just image if you had a speeding ticket or two!!

18 year old behind the wheel of a Viper RT/10 in NJ costs $8000 a year, I asked out of curiousity, the guy laughed more than needed.

NJ insurance rates sucks...all I gotta say...I'm 18, no tickets, no accidents, nothing, and $3000 for my Intrepid, but about $2000 under my father's name. I don't know anything about insurance, but isn't that kinda high for my base Intrepid to be under his name?

Before I got my Intrepid, I almost bought a BMW 540i. The reason I didn't was because of insurance.

I was 18 with no tickets and accidents.

Most places wouldn't even insure me on that car. Geiko would, but at $12,000 a year!!! $1000/month.....

In Wisconsin, my wife(25 years old) and me (27 years old), 98 Jeep Cherokee, 95 Base Intrepid, Home, 2 snowmobiles, full coverage on all, $1,300 a year. I don't think that is too bad.

I remember when I priced Geico they were higher than anyone around.

My insurance is through State Farm. I have like the "premium" coverage and pay about $1300/year. But, after I turn 25 (in less than a month), my rate should go down to about $900/year. :) Let's just hope I didn't jinx myself by saying that. :)

Dodgeguy...that is one of the things I'm fearing. The other is getting into an accident or something. But, a couple of weeks ago my dad was talking to my insurance agent and he was curious as well to what my rate will be after I turn 25. He said it would be around $450/6 months. I still have my fingers cross. :)

I like that pic of your car! Pretty slick!

By the way, hasn't anyone noticed how many cars are being gifted with the R/T badge when they really don't deserve it? The only car right now (besides the Viper) that has decent power is the Intrepid R/T. It's R/T badge gives you an additional 20 HP over the next model down (Neon R/T +18 HP, Dakota / Durango R/T +5 HP, Stratus R/T diff engine no change in HP.) To say R/T = performance these days isn't as true as it used to be. Insurance companies are screwing you R/T owners.

You guys are getting tortured. I beleive the consider my SVT Contour a econo box, I am currently paying about 900 per year for full coverage thru State Farm with outrageous covergae. 100/300 Liability + 0 Comp deductible, 250 Collision deductible, full rental coverage 10K medical coverage. I am listed as 26yo + married but live in the Bay Area, San Jose, Ca 11th largest city in US and 2nd worst traffic in US.

Clean driving record, how I just don't know as 100mph comes too easy.

Wife pays about 800 for Concorde LXi Same coverage as me.

A premium company may cost you more for first year but after that they become cheap. State Farm is spendy but we have been with them for years.
