I have a 99 trep with 2.7 motor. The compressor will not engage when I press the snowflake button. I've run power straight to plug on the side of the compressor, I think it is the clutch. I'm wondering how can I tell if the compressor has seized or do I have bad bearings.

When I ran power to the plug, the clutch turned and made a loud gringing sound, then the engine died (could have been the way I ran the power). But, the clutch did turn. I've run the ac test and get no codes. I dont know what to do now... thinking about changing the clutch assembly to address the bearings if that is the problem. How can I tell if the compressor has seized vs. bad bearings? May not be important, but I had to replace the idler few months back due to bad bearings.

As I understand, I cannot get an accurate pressure reading if the compressor isn't operating, but I'm sure there is plenty freon. Hell its reading 90psi on the low side (I know it cant be right)... what do you guys think?
