This seems to be a pretty hot topic lately. personally I think putting a temporary hault on all sports is the right thing. The NFL disgusts me with their financial talk. Fortunately they followed suit after every other major sports league decided to wait. I don't think any of us are at a place where we are looking to put this behind us. What do you guys think? Should pro sports go on, or take a break?

They should defintely postpone/cancel all games. The NFL made that mistake once back when JFK was killed.

While I would like to see Bonds hit a couple more homers.. baseball, football, and NASCAR are of little importance right now.

I think cancelling the sporting events for this week/weekend are the correct thing to do. Not only is it a security precaution, but it's a sign of respect. However, I think starting Monday any sporting events should go on as planned. Why? Because if we keep cancelling the sporting events, than the terrorists won. And I'll be damned if they are let to win!!!

Definately, Sports should be postponed for the moment. Can you guys beleive the nerve of Vince McMahon continuing to have Wrestling on last night? I think that $ hungry pig is Disrespectful to all the victims and victims families by having his event last night.

Yes.I can believe it.Why shouldn't it be so hard to believe? We're talking about the same person who made the decision to continue with his show moments after the tragic death of one of his own employees inside the ring.

Aside from that,I don't have a strong stance either way.I can see cancelling the events out of respect and honor.I can also see continuing in order to show that we can persevere.

I am a bit surprised that they decided to have the New Hampshire race on Nov 25.

Can you imagine playing "freeze out" for 3 and a half hours? :)

Geez I didn't know that. And here I thought Paul Tagliabo was bad. My opinion of Vince has suddenly sunk!

Not that im defending Vince... but I do have an important point to make.

I totally agree that yes the games should be cancelled this weekend and Vince is going to take a lot of critisism for a long time for this.

However, I did read one important article on the web. The MLB, NFL, etc etc... all have plenty of cash to be able to postpone a week's full of games and not get hit hard in the wallet. The WWF does not have that kind of money. The last two earnings reports for the WWF have been very bad... they are slowly losing money, a big reason due to the 40mil bust of the XFL. Vince has to also try to make the purchase of WCW a profitable one which will not be easy at first. Plus Vince even cut his year end bonus to save cash for the business.

I guess you can tell by now that I am a WWF fan. The Thursday show was blocked here in NY for obvious reasons so I wasnt going to see it either way. You can say, yeah he should have more respect... but i'll tell ya it would have been nice to watch something besides the latest sad news on TV.

I guess in the end, Vince was getting screwed either way. It was a no-win situation. Vince did give the option to all his wrestlers to not wrestle if they didnt feel up to it. None of them took this option.

Just trying to give both sides of it. :)

I can see where Vince would be facing a double edge sword. But,I don't think cancelling one Smackdown would have made a difference either way.

In the same breath,it was a relief to be able to watch Excess last night.I was able to get away from this tragedy for an hour.

Well I'm not Vince's accountant so i don't know what his financial situation is. However I would wager that he is doing pretty well financially. By the size of his daughters ever growing breasts I'd say the whole clan is living high on the hog. The XFL was a joke from start to finish. It wasn't so much a bad idea, but why would anyone listen to wrestling commentators announce football games?

Anywho, I'm sure he could have warmered the storm at least until the week is over. Not trying to be argumentative, just my opinion.

Midway Airlines couldn't even take two days of no flights before they went belly up... :(

My father is a manager for Continental Airlines, they just announced 12,000 people are getting laid off. You'd be very surprised at the effects this is going to have on business.

Obviously, airlines and WWF are two very different buisnesses, but think of how the cost of air travel is going to skyrocket now....and someone's gotta fly The Rock to all his matches... ;)

The cost of air travel I believe is going to go DOWN. Its not going up. They will need to lower ticket prices to lure people back into flying.

Just my opinion.

Unfortunately they can't lower prices now. With people not wanting to fly and flights cut by 20%...(not to mention the added security costs and half filled flights)...prices are already going up.

Since last Tuesday, the airline industry has already lost billions (yup, billions!)

My father works for Continental Airlines, he's a manager at LaGuardia. Continental announced they are laying off 12,000 employees. He found out he might be on the hit list. This poor guy has been in the airline industry for over 30 years. First with Eastern (they went belly up in '91) and now with Continental....I told him to retire! :)

I dunno. Like i said, I seriously doubt they will raise prices. As much as they are losing money, they will need to lower prices at first to get customers back.

Its kinda like lowering interest rates to pump money back into the market. You need to bait people to come back. Raising prices will not do it.

On a side note, my father told me his company has freezed all company travel indefinitely... probably until things cool off. Im sure other companies are doing this too.

I for one... have to plan a trip out to the west coast (LA and SF) sometime in the end of October, early November. Lets just say I am not looking forward to flying.

actually, i would probably feel most comfortable flying at a time like this. heightened security, most passengers on alert, and air marshals on planes again (finally, what took you guys so long???).

me and one of my flying buddies came up with a good idea actually. what they need to do is make the cockpit bulkhead unbreakable. if someone tries to hijack or makes a threat, one of the officers on deck (captain or F/O) presses a button that releases a simple anasthetic that makes everyone in the rear cabin pass out for 20 minutes (longer on int'l flights). they land the plane and when people start coming around then armed officials are waiting to greet them.

if that's not cool, maybe they should consider this slightly more inhumane alternative. again, make the cockpit bulkhead unbreakable and keep it locked all the time. if they try to hijack it, let them. if they start killing people, as bad as that sounds, so be it. at least they can't commandeer the plane and cause more casualties than the souls aboard (minus the flight crew).

anyone else have any bright ideas?

97, I agree....you almost have to look at the lesser of two evils.

If the president is willing to shoot down a full commercial airliner, then really the passengers are going to have to realize that if they don't do something, then noone is going to be able to help them. It's a sad and scary situation. But the powers that be have to weigh 200 lives with 50,000 lives. (Tell that to the person with a box cutter to their throat at 30,000 feet.)

But, if they can make an airtight bulkhead between the cockpit and the passenger compartment...all they have to do is lower the cabin pressure and everyone would eventually pass out.

Sure we can talk about all this crap, but are they going to do it? Probably not, it all costs $$...Continental announced today that unless they get some kind of goverment bailout , they will have to declare bankruptcy in 15 days. (and they are one of the more "healthy" airlines). Though, it looks like the industry is getting around $14 billion instead of the $24 billion which was requested from the goverment.

Boeing announced 30,000 layoffs (since noone needs to buy planes because noone wants to fly in them!)

United says "tootles" to 20,000...

USAir says "adios" to 11,000.

Midway went out of business and sent 1,700 workers home with pink slips.

...and more announcements are on the way!

Man, I thought us Network Admins were having it bad.... (of course, I'm sure a percentage of those laid off from the above airlines were doing that very thing)

the retrofit would cost money and plenty of it. the part would have to be redesigned, produced, and then installed. all this takes time and $$$. the federal gov't should pay for the implementation and the manufacturers (i guess just boeing and airbus now) would cover the design and distribution. it's not going to be easy but it simply must be done.
