Decided that it was time to "spruce up" the poor old Grande Caravan, since it is now 15+ years old, and at 300,000 miles, is getting a bit ratty.
So, I picked up a very nice set of heated leather Durnago front seats, ones with the nice embroidered Dodge Ram logo in red on them.
However after much fooling around, while I got the driver's side in and functional, the passenger side was a different story. The sliding drawer under that side posed a problem, since the Durnago seat is powered, and I wanted that function. The seat is too narrow, and while I could modify the driver's side, the passenger side was basically a "no-go".
So, what to do? Well. I remembered that deep in the shed there were a pair of front Special seats in black that "someone" not allowed here "traded in" on some other items, saying they were pretty much worthless, so I agreed to give some credit & take them for parts.
Turns out, that nothing on them worked, simply because the plugs underneath were all unplugged. Once plugged in, everything worked as it should.
In fact, with some creative wiring to a spare BCM, I got the heat working as well. (I guess the last laugh is on him, he didn't "screw me" after all)
Anyway, here are a couple of pix - you'll not that I also have an AI EVIC mounted in the dash as well, so I can keep an eye on those darn leaky chrome wheels - oh, there is also a mostly-functioning RB1.
I also put in the Durango centre console. It has multiple storage areas, and a power outlet, as well as internal lighting.
BTW, the wiring hanging below the RB1 is for testing other radios, so that I don't have to keep taking the RB out. There is also a CD lead in the glove box.
All-in-all, it went well in the "old girl". Who says that 2nd gen LH parts can't be used elsewhere?

3.3L or 3.8L ?
venerable 3.3, all I have changed is the water pump at 100,000, starter and alternator at 200,000. Rest, including the trans and all of it's internals are original (except fluid & filter of course)

I frickin love the 3.3L it's one of dodge's best. You can't kill them. I've got the 3.8L in my Town & Country and it's great. It needs a tune-up but other than that it's one great running machine (except for it SUCKING gas)(seriously, OPEC should send Christmas cards)

Poor mileage, really? That's odd, this was my last trip to US, averaged over 2200 miles from TO to Toledo, to Lexington, K., to Reading PA, and to home:

That was at 65 - 7- MPH, and it is pretty much what I consistantly get.
Are you sure the EGR, etc is working properly?

I didn't know it had EGR? I've never had to work on it so I really don't know much about it other than it runs excellent. It gets on average 14mpg. Yea, really sucky.

I don't think they did away with that until the 2002 year - or thereabouts.
The earlier ones, up to at least 1999 have it just behind the throttle body, and it is prone to being either seized or plugged. YOu need to remove the TB to get at it.. I agree, 14 is really bad. even at my worst, with an engine/trans in the back and the rest loaded to the roof, I've never had less than 20 - these are on teh OTIS, so are US MPG as well, not converted to Cdn.
You could also have a bad O2 sensor.
