My 2002 intrepid se is back where I bought it, where they can keep the pos. I am sorry for any of you who have the misfortune of owning one of these things. Problem after problem. Find out its good to change the timing chain and water pump, and then find out its gonna cost 2k to do that. Finally, took it to the shop, and the whole front end is messed up. Nice $440 bill. Never again will I own a Chrysler product. I will stick with a ford, chevy, or something foreign. Sorry about this, just had to get that out...$1500 down the drain. But, thank god the damned thing is gone. I should have broken everything I could on it.
A little more history on it. I got it in March 09. Had 120k miles on it. Needed gas cap, so I bought one. Fixed for a few days, then engine light came back on. This was an intermittent problem, till finally it showed a code about the evap system. IDK, it went away. Windshield leaks, window came off track, cigarette lighter didn't work.
They took it back today, and at least I got a $18 something gift card back from autozone on the gas cap....something good came out of it...wait...I may be buying a FORD. That is the best to come out of it.

Did you have a 2.7? I've heard those can be quite exciting to own (although minefields usually are). I'm sure bad luck might have had something to do with it, too.

Anyways, I hope you have better luck in your future automotive endeavors. Stay cool, bro!

I guess I should have known better than to bought off a buy here pay here lot, anyways. A place with Honest in their name, that should have rang a bell not to go there. The sludge, and timing chain/water pump problems worried the heck out of me, though. I have heard they will just stop, with no warning, that they are done for.

I'm assuming you're shopping at a different place this time around?:turn:

I don't know much about Escorts, but for what it's worth, you don't see too many of them anymore. That might mean something, it might not.

New Intrepid, eh? I must look into this...

I've found several sites tucked deep within the intertubes discussing the 2010 Dodge Intrepid, but all the pictures and stats are from a 2g! My spider sense is telling me that this is probably bullshit.

My common sense is telling me the same thing. The Intrepid name has been tarnished after the 2.7 ****up. Talk to most people and they are told to run from them. Just look at re-sell on these cars now. Also, Chrysler has the 300 and Charger as nameplates for there full sized sedan so there would be a conflict right there. Let's face it, I highly doubt we will ever see the intrepid name on another car for many years to come.

I know how you feel man. This will be my last chrysler also. So far ive repaired the following within 3 years of owning it

Outer Tie Rods
Inner Tie Rod bushings
Both wheel bearings
Both Control Arms
Transmission
Rear Stabilizer links
Upper Intake manifold
Blower Motor Resistor
Blower Motor
Rack & Pinion
Replaced Engine after developing a knock around 155k
Drivers side window motor
Passenger side window clips now need to be replaced
Flex Pipe
Egr Tube Gaskets
Starter twice

And now to make matters worse the engine has a tap at startup for about 2 minutes. The Passenger wheel bearing needs replacing again. The climate control lights up when it wants to. The clock spring is in need of replacing, and the oil pressure switch just went out on me

If i still didnt owe about 2 grand on this car it would be history. Now maybe i just got a bad one but i wont take the risk with another The front end seems to never stay right also

I hate these threads because they are just totally ignorant. If it was a used 2.7 then it is no surprise. A motor where maintenence is especially crucial on a used car is a crap shoot and everyone here knows all about that. Besides that, people who extrapolate one bad experience, even if due to no mistake of their own, to meaning that all LHs or Dodges are crap is ignorant as well. Do you think there would be such a huge following on here if the cars all sucked?

Agree totally....and both who complained mentioned their cars had over 100K, and one way over 100K. I dont care what brand you buy, over 100k you are going to have problems. Problems with Fords, Chevys, etc are just as scary and numerous as these cars can be. Spend a few years in the auto repair industry and this will become very clear.

Alot depends too on how the previous owner took care of their car. They could have beat the crap out of it, and never opened the hood until it quit running.
