My driver side door speaker blew out. =( Do you it's better to get another stock speaker or buy aftermarket components. I have 2 amps and 2 12"s in the trunk, I had Kenwood speakers in the doors and rear deck but they didn't sound as good as the stock speakers so I returned them. I liked how the stock speakers sounded, but what do you guys think I should get? A stock replace (possiblily for free from work) or aftermarket componants. I have the base sound btw, not the infinity gold system.

i'd bite the bullet and get some good cerwins or pioneers - you'll be amazed at the sound for this easy mod. the stock system isn't as bad as a lot of other cars but if you're looking for REAL good sound you'll have to get higher-quality speakers all around.

from time to time, I'll blast the music, while I drive with the windows down, and relax (so I won't have to listen the girlfriend [j/k babe]), and the stock speakers have always loud, and clear enough for me. You're not running a club in your back seat, right? :D just a suggestion.

Actually I am, $10 admission, half price if you own an Intrepid or any other LH body. Ladies free everynight, Free drinks on Friday nights. ;) hehe just playing I thikn you're right on that though. It's a 30% chance that I might be hauling a passenger in my car. And it sounded just fine with the stock speakers....thanks for the input metalroar and 97 sport platinum

If you liked the way the stocker's sounded and you can get yourself a new one for free, do it. Then run down to you local car stereo shop and get yourself a pair of NP capacitors AKA Bass Blockers. Somthing that will block around 200HZ down. The reason you killed you speakers to begin with is because you simply fed them too much bass, and since you have subs anyway you don't want those small speakers trying to recreate bass they cant do accurately anyways..

Aftermaket Component speakers WILL sound better, but good ones cost around $200 + from a decent maker like Boston, Infinity, Polk, Orion, Soundstream or Fosgate...

If you go either route, do yourself a favor and get those Caps. about $10-20 and youll save yourself having to buy a new set of speakers every six months :)

I'm all for the sound upgrade after I did my whole car. I'm no audiophile, but after replacing my doors and tweeters the difference was incredible. I can hear the quality differences in sound recordings now. It's just amazing. Check out my install photos and if you need any audio stuff let me know. I can get pretty good prices on brand new product.
