most of the major places online that sell speakers also offer product reviews. Crutchfield, Sound Domain to name a few... Some companies such as Polk also offer reviews of their products on their own website but Im sure they are slightly skewed for obvious reasons.

Live and learn, well.......

All the stuff at crutchfieldadvisors is 1-3 years out of date, the end-user comments at the main crutchfield site are useful.

caraudio.com 'reviews' mostly consist of one user telling us how good they feel about their purchase.

SoundDomain has always been good.

Any enthusiast magazines that publish on the web?

Crutchfieldadvisor is good for basics... a decent understanding of the companies and such.

I don't know of any car audio mags that have web subscriptions, but you can go to www.caraudiomag.com and get a lot of good reviews on stuff and subscribe to their hardcopy magazine.

caraudio.com/forum is a good place to read and take everything with a grain of salt. Lots of people throw around big names, but there are a few people that really know what they are talking about. Make friends w/them and start some all-nighter AIM sessions picking their brains!

google really is your friend.

You will find a myriad of reviews from all of the above posted sites. If you have NO idea of what yo u are looking for, mag's are a decent resource as well as going to forum's for suggestions. The best way is to go to a dealer and physically listen to the speakers as audio is really what you think sounds good.

I could say a speaker has harsh high's and muddy lows, but what exactly does that mean to you? Anyway, I usually just read reviews to see how the customer service is, if needed... and for any complaints that are not related to it's sound, such as build quality(well I guess it would be fairly related to sound ;\) etc.
