This is going to be a moment of venting. Bear with me...
Just got my car back from (PA State) inspection (and boy it juts passed... phew).
What a rip off! For those of you in the philly burbs, I will let you know where NOT to go!
First off. How come I have to PAY for those little stickers that are state mandated? If the state says I can't legally drive without them, how come my tax dollars don't go towards that!?
2) They didn't listen to me. I told them don't do any work, and they did (mind you, all they did was change the lightbulbs in the 3rd brake light - that worked the night before) - they then couldn't produce the bad bulbs because they threw them out... Which they charged me two dollars to do! <--- that was the moment I got really really pissed.
3)I just bought the car last june. It's inspection was up in Feb. Well... I now have to go back in THREE MONTHS and go through this all again! Not to mention do I have to pay for YET ANOTHER set of stickers?!

I'm sorry... I just needed to vent to some people that probably think the same thing of the DOT system... It's not enough that it's a hassle... They need to make it a screw job too!

Thanks,
Kenny "The Icecream Man"

Yep, it's a big screw job for sure........my car has to go through emissions testing this year because they think a 3 year old car will pollute or something??? Trucks and SUV's aren't subject to emissions testing, so they can pollute all they want to :(

If you just got a new sticker isn't it good for a year? Why would you need to go back in 3 months to do it again?

I wonder if they make the Amish in PA get stickers on their carraiges.. :baaa:

Jersey inspections are relatively straight forward. You go once every 2 years and it takes about 7-8 minutes. THey check the lights, check the front end and back end on that machine that shakes the **** out of your car. then they press the horn an you're out. The only other things you can really fail for are check engine lights, emissions, or winshield cracks. When i had a Jeep Cherokee, i ran it through inspection, it passed just fine, a week later the motor blew on me... go figure.

I'm so glad we don't have inspection here. I've heard so many people complain about it. All we have to do here is go every other year for emissions testing. You drive in the bay, get out while they plug in to the computer port to check emissions, pay $45 and you're done.

Nah... They do a "road test" here instead of putting it on a grate that shakes (like they do in jersey).

And I have no friggin clue why they didn't just put Feb 2005 stickers on... Or even a note sayin "inspection done March 1. Come back for correct stickers in may/june"?!

It's just a rip off... Because we have to take the car to a garage, they see dollar signs and say such and such has to be fixed before we can pass it.

And it's a hassel! I dropped the car off at 8 AM... and it wasn't ready until 5:30!!! At jersey you might wait an hour, but once you're in... You're in and out... Done, finished... You can get on with your life!

Well, in Florida there is no testing of any kind (no emissions testing, no safety inspections, nothing!)...and with that brings the morons! I'm so sick and tired of seeing vehicles with crap just duct taped on, or held up by a piece of wire, or headlights out of aim, or bald tires, no brake lights...the list goes on and on.

I wish they would bring back inspections to Florida. At least for a little while, the roads would be empty because half of the cars on the road down here would fail miserably!

If you can't afford to maintain a vehicle properly, you have no business driving it on the road!

Just my $0.02

i dont want inspections brought back...and florida testing wasnt making sure the body was together anyway, all they did was emissions, and it was only in 6 counties anyway, so what would it do? my dad's old ass GMC truck that we had before the ram had rust holes all through it, but it always passed with the dual exhuast and the wheezing 350...Florida inspections were pull in, they stick a probe in the pipes, you pay $10, you leave...thats it.

Hmmm.....I'm with Swtchd2Dodge on this one. Yeah, it's a pain in the butt, but it helps (in most cases) keep the real dangerous vehicles off the road. We have safety and emissions here in Utah. Gotta keep the valley air clean!

it would be fine if it were in all counties, but then my truck would be illegal, and it would be hell trying to customize anything, and that sucks...thank god i was 13 when our governor Jeb Bush, ditched testing in the SIX counties it was done in, Dade, Broward, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Orange, and Duval...thats it! 6 out of 67 counties had testing...even though those 6 counties make up about 35% of the population here...but there were still cars falling apart then, and there still would be

Believe it or not, we did have full vehicle inspections in Florida (MANY years ago...like 20+ years ago). Then they did away with all inspections and then brought back just emmissions testing for certain counties. A couple years ago, they did away with that as well...was very easy to pay off the guy inspecting your vehcile ;)

Well dont get me wrong... I've "bought" my fair share of inspection stickers as well over the years. I had a friend working at a Mobil inspect my car for 20 bucks and i was good to go with a crack 2 ft long running through my winshield.

We have inspections in Missouri but it's just for safety (except in St. Louis - they have emissions, too). I'm for them because someone at least checks the lights, horn, front brakes, and exhaust (for leaks) every two years. Otherwise, a LOT of idiots would be running around in junk, not just the few there are now. And here, cracked windshields CAN pass - it depends on where the crack is and how big.
I hope we NEVER go to emissions or I'm hosed - I don't think the Bird would pass
