Just thought i'd share with everyone my experience with the Best Buy install department.
I while back i bought a pioneer deck and front and back JBL speakers from Best Buy. My buddy works there so he managed to hook me up with half price install. Anyways, i bring all the stuff in and they install it. Great.
I get home and check everything over (something i should have done while i was there) Anyways, i notice that my back seatbelts are completely stuck behind my seats which took me forever to manage to get them out, also the material covering the back speakers was filthy, it looked like they used it as a floor mat. The drivers side door speaker cover fell off when i shut my door becuase it was not snapped back into place properly. Ok.. fine, i fix all those little problems.. not a big deal. About a week later, my drivers side speaker just stops working.. hmmm. I knew it wasn't blown because i havn't cranked my music at all. Two days later the sound comes back - faulty connection.
I go back to Best Buy installs to get them to check it out because there work is gauranteed. So they take a look at it. This guy who is working in it starts unscrewing my door panel. The door seemed a little tough to get off so he starts yanking at pulling at it, a plastic door panel clip breaks off while he is doing this. By this time i dont him to stop, he said he needed to get into the door panneling to get at the speaker. He then asks another co-worker who seemed somewhat competant. The guy then walks back to my car door, pops the speaker cover open, pulls out the speaker and puts the wire back into its proper place. I starts to place the door panelling back and i tell him about the clip that broke off. He pretends he dosnt know what i am talking about.
At this point i just want to get my car the hell out of there.
So the dude finishes then stands there looking at me as if i owe him some sort of tip or something.
The service was horribly amatuerish. Anyone looking to get car audio install done stay away from large electronic stores. I recommend going to smaller performace or audio shops who's employees have more then a slight idea and a "How To" guide in their hands.

Oh, I know what you mean......I don't trust these places because they have sooo much business that they don't care about the way they work. I've found one guy (referred by a friend of mine) that just opened his business and he's very good. He takes his time and does a very clean job, just like if this was is own car. He's very honest with you on what he's going to do and how much it will cost. He's there to do what you want, not make money. Good service will keep people coming back, as he says and he's right........so, yeah, don't go to those big stores for that.

i do all mine myself but all shops are pretty much the same thats why most take your car in back where you cant see or watch them work on it you should have called your buddy before you went back most of the guys that work at big and small shops are young and dont know much about cars but think its cool to work at a stereo install shop

The thing is, i was with my buddy when i went back, he was standing right beside me but that made no difference to the kid installing.

I feel your pain. My wife bought me the HU for Christmas and the morons at Circuit City installed it for free as part of the package deal she got when she was there. So, I park the Trep outside, give the guy the keys and they tell me that it'll take around an hour. Fine. My wife and I go to another store across the street to do some shopping etc. An hour and a half later we go back and the car is again parked outside so I go get my keys, ask if everything is ok and when they say yes we go to the car. Once inside, we notice that the CD doesn't produce sound, only the FM/AM does. So I go back asking what's wrong. So I put the car into the garage they have and leave it there again. A little while later I come back to find the Trep outside again, confident everything's ok. Well, the HU plays and everything is good with that, but every single light on the gauge cluster is lit up, the odometer reads "no bus", the tank is on empty etc. So they pull out the HU again and find a wire or whatever that they haven't covered in tape and it's apparently causing a short-circuit. Unbelievable. Finally everything is ok and we leave. Now, for the last couple of weeks I've had trouble with my rear speakers having a lot of static and sometimes they simply don't work. Other times they play like nothing is wrong. So now I have to have my regular mechanic (who's incredibly sloooooooow, but very good) fix it. These people take no pride in their work, you're messing with somebody personal possession and you don't care if you do a good job AND you're getting paid for it? It's the last time I'm having anybody like that touch my car. The next time they'd probably set fire to it.
