OK all this talk on putting in consoles and shifters has made me think. (ouch)

How hard is it to take my plain wheel and put in a leather wrapped one? Does the airbag come off the wheel easily (that is probably the biggest cost to the wheel I would imagine, plus the airbag was probably deployed if the car is in the junkyard...) so if I can just use my airbag and put into a doner wheel, think that would work??

Intrepidatious, spill what you did. Junk yard salvage? what was the cost of the wheel? Did the airbag come with it?

Intrepid99 and Thrasher. I want leather, but dont want to spend alot.

Do either of you want to sell your old leather shifter (if not wore out)?

Contact me privately if you wish.

Hey guys,

Yeah, I got my leather shifter and steering wheel by way of Chrysler. My brother "warrantied" me a new steering wheel and shifter (of course there was nothing wrong with old ones :) ) I just had to give up my old ones to give back to Chrysler's warranty claims thingee.

The shifter was a 2 second ordeal, one little screw. The steering wheel looked pretty easy (my brother did it) But I believe all he did was take the airbag cover off and then whatever holds the steering wheel on is under that. You don't have to worry about putting the new steering wheel back on crooked, because there is a spline that has a large tooth that makes it so you can only put it on in one position. Then you just reconnect the airbag aand voila! You've got yourself a little stylin' leather!
