You can switch to synthetic oil without any problems. Mobil 1, Amsoil, and Redline are some good oils to check out. Visit their websites and do a little research. Good luck.

Just remeber, If you DO change it from "regluar" oil, to synetic, you MUST keep it that way, or you will have problems.

Where did you hear that? I think that is one of those "old myths".

Maybe, BUT I used to work part time when i was younger at a local shop, and a older man brought a 96 dodge ram in and he switched between "regular" oil and that synetic (sp) stuff, and he had the most nasty oil i've ever seen, it was more like a sludge. He said that he changes the type and brand after each oil change, so my forman told him that was the problem. He ended up trading the truck off. Which i think it makes sense, but then on the other hand, maybe i'm wrong??????

oil is oil. they are designed to be mixed and matched. switching brands/weights/types does NOT cause significant problems. almost 100% of the time, problems arise from problems already present in the engine. Switching between Synth and Reg should provide NO problems, as you do it all the time (all regular oils do have SOME synthtic content..... what do you think those "friction modifiers" are? And what about the Synthetic blend crowd? Do you still think mixing is bad?)
I would say, if you DO goto synth, stay with it.. as it is MUCH better for your engine... but it won't hurt going back and forth...
also.. if you DO switch... and your car has many miles on conventional oil, make your first change a partial synth (2 qts synth, 3.5 qts reg), as full synth is a much better cleaning agent, and it CAN dislodge crap that the regular oil leaves behind.

I switched from standard to synthetic (Mobil 1) in my Lumina Euro with 90K miles on it. What I noticed right away was the engine seemed to start easier and quicker, probably less friction at start up. I think it had a bit better throttle response, too. It did leak a bit more. I've heard of this happening, not sure if it's true or a myth. Knowing that I was going to sell this car soon, and not wanting to spend the money for another syn. oil fill, I switched back to natural oil the next time. No problems that I know of. That fellow that had problems with his Ram, probably would have had probs anyway.

I haven't switched the Trep over yet, not sure if I will or not. I think for normal, everyday driving where I live (pretty cool climate) that synthetic isn't really necessary. If I drove hard, in a warmer area, with lots of hills, I would probably consider it more. I also like to change my oil often, and with syn. that gets real expensive, real quick!

Check out this website http://www.motor-oil-bible.com

I switched from regular oil to synthetic at about 75,000 KMs with no problems - only improvements! It is MUCH better for the engine. I can't see switching back to regular causing any problems, other than losing the benefits of synthetic.

Ok I had a company rep. come to my shop on mobil 1 and he told me that you should to a slow change over to full syn. oil to get the engine used to the oil. like if your car holds 5qts oil put four qts. regular oil in than 1 qt of mobil 1,The only reason I had him come to the shop is because I had a chevy van that I did a complete change over all at once and the lifters went nuts there was only 47,000 miles on the engine in would run great but once it sat overnight the lifter would lose there prime and the engine would miss and be noisey the first start of the day and if it sat for 8 hours.
This is what I had to do is change the oil about 4 or 5 times and the problem went away than after a few oil changes I did a slow change over and all is fine SO FAR

Just my thought:baaa:
