hey guys, i currently have stock speakers and want to go buy some new ones so that I can listen to the music louder without it distorting so bad

its a '94 3.3L first gen trep, so everything is stock, 6x9's in the back, and if im correct, 5 1/2's in the front doors(?)

what are some GOOD speakers out there that will hit hard and not distort? how much do they run?

also, I currently have 2 12" rockford fosgate 700watt subs but are being run by a 233watt component amp.... What is a good sub that will make these babies sound their best?

thanks for the thoughts guys!

Try either a Fosgate 500bd or 1000bd sub amp for the subs. GO with the 500 if u are on a budget. If you can lay out a couple of extra dollars.. get the 1000bd.

I have the 1000bd and I love it. Kickass amp! And I am running Infinity Perfects on there that are rated at 350RMS.

First of all, distortion is typically caused by the amplifier, not the speakers. So simply upgrading your speakers won't help that much for playing louder without distortion. So you're really need to be looking for at least an amp and new speakers if not a new headunit as well. Check out the Audio/Video forum for a lot more info...

Thats a peak rating.

Its definatly amp distortion. Those sony headunit amps distort a lot.

The preouts will probably be cleaner though.

I would look at buying a amp and new mids first.

Does your OEM system have an amplifier in it? This could explain a lot of the distortion if you're Sony is driving the OEM amplifier. If not and you need more volume before distortion you need a bigger amplifier...

OK, lets slow this way down. Do you have an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer, on other words originally equipped) amplifier in the audio system. If it's an Infinity system, you do. If it's not an Infinity system you likely do not. If you don't have an OEM amplifier in your system then you've simply hit the limit of your headunit's amplifier and you need more power. New speakers aren't going to help much if you want louder music...

ok this is where im getting stuck (i dont have an infinity system). The only thing i have done was take out the original factory casette player and install my sony cd. And my subs... besides that nothing. Where is this amp that you are speaking of located thats supposed to have come with the car? (sorry this is probably irritating you extremely, lol)

If you don't have the Infinity system then you probably don't have an amplifier. There seem to be some out there with a "mid grade" amplified system, but it appears to be rare. Therefore, it sounds like you're just trying to push your headunit too hard. Look into some aftermarket speakers and definitely an amplifier to power them with. You're not goint to get louder with less distortion by just changing your speakers...

oh ok, your talking about a component amp? and that should take away the distortion? are infinity speakers really good aftermarket 6x9's? i was taking a look at them, what would you guys say is the best aftermarket 6x9 speaker?

I'm talking about adding an amplifier to your other speakers like you have your subwoofer. Something with more power than your headunit has. The brand of speaker really depends on the person. How they sound is too subjective for anyone to say brand x is better than all others. When choosing speakers for a system you're much better off going out and listening to them yourself...
