Well Autoextremist has been talking about this for quite some time. I've put up threads in the past whenever an article appears there regarding Nascar. Now the big question is which one will pull out ? Any ideas ?

From this weeks Autoextremist.com:

Thinking the unthinkable - Who will pull out of Nascar ?

Here's the link for the story:

Ford is my guess. True though the car of tomorrow. Is going to make Nascar 500 lap Iroc race. More than likely all Toyota's even if it was one of the big 3. I have talked with many friends and family. And we all agree if that happens. I guess its time to start watching drag racing again or some other race car sport. Part of the fun of Nascar is the battle between car makers. If you take that away( Boring ).

I wonder what's going to happen when they go to the 'car of the future'. I mean you're right Spook, it'll be like an Iroc race with more cars. I'm wondering how many of their 'true' fans will abandon Nascar.

The Germans hate NASCAR. They keep talking about saving the money from NASCAR to buy a set of tires for F1.

Mopar pulled out once already. Maybe she will again especially with all the grief caused over the new charger.

Well the Charger has turned it around. They already won 3 races this year. Though it wouldn't surprise me if it was Dodge.

I know that the charger has won 3 of the last 7 this year, but What I meant was that with all of the aero and balance issues the with new charger and some of the teams switching back to the 'treps, may have pissed them off to the point where they say screw it.

I don't see DC in Le Mans or going that way. But Ford has for years.

I'd guess Ford or GM before DC, but I'm gonna go with Spook here and say Ford, because GM has always been the big fish when it comes to Nascar, I mean ford was popular as well but the majority always seemed to be Chevys, so I don't think GM would consider pulling out yet, maybe in the future sure, especially with their financial crisis

it's Ford. we're backing out of everything performance to save money.

Faggots in the head offices, I swear. Layoffs and pulling out of the one aspect most people care about is NOT the way to make money. Put MORE money into motorsports, it generates a lot of buisness.

Or, they could just stop making crap!!
"crap" is a matter of opinion. I personally have had an excellent track record with every Ford I've owned. I think Ford's product is just as good and just as bad as everything else out on the market.

People who think one type of car is better than the other are simply ignorant; once you work in the car field, you realize all cars are basically identical. Each make/model has its own specific problems/recalls/etc, but they all share exactly the same principles, and all are equally fast/reliable/costly.

One of the guys at my shop was a Chrysler Master Tech. for 22 years. Within two weeks, he was making hours at a Ford-only shop. The only thing I had to explain to him was some recalls and how to hook up/use the functions of our diagnostic system.

Anyone who makes comments like Honda sucks or Ford rules or Chevy is the best or Mopar or no car is simply an idiot. Congratulations, you really like one manufacturer. It has its ups and downs like anyone else, and to make blanket statements like ______ is good and _____ is bad shows your immature generalizations.

Agreed.

Of all the Fords, I have owned in my lifetime, I, personally, have only owned 1 "bad" Ford ('84 Tempo)...I've only owned a couple GM's ('59 Chev Pickup, 90 Bonneville SSei), and I liked them both, although the Bonneville was a rattle-trap. I've owned a couple Honda Preludes (early '80's), and had 236k miles on one and 170k+ on the other when I sold them.

All manufacturers have their quirks.

Well, I was OK until you got to that point! I agree most cars are the same underneath and you get what you pay for but we've all got our favorites. As someone has already pointed out about NASCAR we have our "teams" that we root for.

I've stuck with Mopar over the years because at one time I could almost listen to a 318 and tell you what was wrong, if anything. Driving 318 3-speeds for 15 years and over 300,000 miles gives you a LOT of experience with that set-up. And my affection for Mopar started with the simple fact that they had torsion bars instead of coil springs, which (IMO) was a better system. I also tend to like Mopar styling better than Ford or Chevy but, again, it's all a matter of opinion.

I don't really fault people for being Ford fanatics any more than I fault Bowtie Guys. If I down another car company it's all in good fun and I would hope whoever I'm aiming at will take it as such and have a good come-back of their own. In2Deep and I have traded insults many times but we respect each other and each other's cars ...

Well the latest rumor I heard is 'GM' backing out. I guess time will tell. If the big 3 keep having financial difficulties then they may all bailout.

I still think that's why the have the 'car of the future'. It'll be easier for other makes to get in the game.

It's kind of funny that you think it's GM, as they're running their 'Team Chevy' ads, as winning more races than anyone else, and blah blah blah, only to turn around and leave.
