OK, ever since I got my car detailed 2 days ago, I have been having a tough time switching gears. And when I do switch, it seems like all the positions are ****ed up?

I decided just now that it is a major problem since I am unable to put it in park!!! When i move it all the way forward, the furthes I can get to is neutral!!! I had to leave it like that and put my parking brake on!!

Any ideas??

wow... first time I've heard of that happening. What the hell did they detail, inside all the consoles too? One thing that you can do is take the shifter knob off (a star screw facing the stereo) and take off the shifter console area by pulling up at the seams. It all pops off but if it's the first time coming off, it may take a bit more force than you think. Inside is the shifter mechanism with a cable connected to it. Maybe something is in the way down there? if not, maybe something is catching on the cable?

My dad took it apart this morning and looked into it for a while. He didn't see anything wrong with the cable itself, or that is was getting caught on anything.

Anyone know if this is covered under warranty??

Another lesson learned!! You can't start the car unless it's in park!!! It took me like 20 minutes for pusing and pulling on that damn thing, but I finally got it in park. Almost had to push it thru the plastic at the front.

It's still not better though. I went to put it in drive, and it kept going to autostick, and I couldn't get it out of first gear because I couln't move it left or right at that point!!!

OK...just got off the phone with my local Chrysler Dealer. Told them my problem, and it looks like it's covered under my warranty (at least that $1200 extended warranty isn't going to waste).

I'm bringing in my car monday morning, so we'll see what happnes.

Well, the dealer called me and said that they found the problem. It was the cable that connected the transmission to the shifter. It was damaged.

He said that the company that installed my alarm wired it thru the same opening that that cable went thru, which, over time, damaged the cable.

He's gonna fix the cable under my warranty, however, he's gonna charge me $118 to rewire my alarm :( I told him it was OK, but I'm gonna go back to the place where I got the alarm installed and see if they'll reinburse me?? (Probably won't).

What do you think?

I'd try anything I could to get re-imbursed by them. It's worth a shot, the worst thing they can do is say no.

I hate that, when you take a car somewhere to get something added, and when you get it back, all you have now is a problem that you have to fix. I got Neon lights under my car. When I picked that car up, on the way home I noticed that the parking brake release was real loose. So I took the lower dash off, and just readjusted the position of the cable on the release. But still it was a noticable thing, why they did not fix it when they caused the problem I do not know. Thats what really pisses me off with some places, Im sure they would cause a fuss if they brought the car to me and I did not return it in one piece.

You really do need the alarm where you live too
