Scenario:
I had our 2002.5 SXT in for oil service and repair of dripping transmission cooler lines on Monday.
The work order indicated that they cut the hoses back and replaced the hose clamps with a newer kind on warranty.

Problem:
On Tuesday morning as we rolled to a stop light I heard the famous rrrraaaattttaaatttaaattt from the transmission. (I used to have a 1991 3.0L Dodge Spirit ES. I know the sound!)

The car has just turned over 24K Km and the transmission is already starting to act up. I had installed the anti-foam when I got the car. (Thanks to DI.NET)

Is there anyone else out there haveing this much fun (sarcasm)with a new vehicle?

That noise is normal. It is not a "problem".

Thats what the dealerships keep saying and I still don't beleive them after 10 years!

Well, my previous Intrepid (1995) made that noise... and I never had a transmission problem. If the noise was really an indicator of a problem, I'm sure it would fail very quickly.... and that everyone's would fail before 36K miles.

My 2000 Intrepid makes that noise too.. 70K and not a single problem with the trannty.

The noise is made every time the car shifts, if I'm not mistaken. When you're coming to a stop, the car is shifting gears. If you roll down your window in a parking lot and put it in reverse, you will hear it too. (I say parking lot so there are other cars next to yours for the noise to bounce off of)

With regard to a buzzing noise just before stopping:

I'm right in the heart of one of Chrysler's strongest sales markets. I can stand on any street corner in my town and in ten minutes probably hear 30-40 examples of this sound, which goes "bzzzz---zz-tic". It's completely normal. It's the transmission fluid control solenoid valves opening and shutting rapidly to make the fluid go where it's supposed to go to shift the transmission. All the FWD/AWD 4spd automatics make this sound with every upshift, every downshift, and every gear selection. You hear the one as you pull to a stop, because the road and engine noise are minimal at this low speed.
