I have a 96 ES, 3.5 Liter. Sometimes when I slow down to a stop, the car jerks, like it's downshifting hard. I just recently had the transmission fluid changed, so the transmission should be ok. It has always shifted fine. The only time it jerks is when I slow down (like if someone in front of me slows down suddenly), then I accelerate back up and then stop again...like when I am coming up to a stop light. Any suggestions? Thanks

One more question...I have a stock power antenna, how come you rarely see power antenna's on Intrepids? I guess it's just not a very popular option....

Quick few things...

You have the right fluid in the Transmission?

Had the Firmware updated within the Transmission Computer?

Some people inclusive of myself retrain thier
Transmission computer after a fluid change, to do so disconnect the battery for around a minute to completely wipe the memory. Then put it back on and find a nice strip of road, quiet preferably.. Take the car from 0-50 steadly and then stop, making sure that you get the Transmission in overdrive when you hit 50, it might even go into overdrive at 45.. Repeat this process about 20-25 times, yeah you`ll look insane stopping and starting, :) But it worked for my Concorde.

About the Antenna, I see alot of them on Concorde LXi`s but like you mentioned, not on
many other LH models, I am not sure about the LHS though, that maybe a question for our resident LHS owner..lhser..

Hope some of this helps.

My car downshifts kinda hard to when going from 2nd to 1st. It does it when it makes the "chysler/dodge" clicking sound or whatever that is that almost all newer dodge products make when coming to a stop.

did they change the filter when they replaced the tranny fluid? also, make sure they put in the correct type of fluid (only use Mopar ATF+3). if both of these check out, detach your negative battery cable for about 15 minutes. this will reset the PCM. the car will sputter and die the first time you start it. after that it should run fine. the first 100 miles might be rough because the computer has to "re-learn" your driving technique. i did this and it makes a world of difference. it's worth losing the presets and clock in your stereo. hope this helps.

I got my transmission fluid changed at a place called Quik 10, it's a good place to go to, it's owned by Valvoline. But to tell you the truth, I don't know what kind of fluid they put in, and I don't know if they changed the filter, I should have asked. I know- I'm dumb, but I'm only 17. Does this mean I should take it to Dodge and have them service it? I don't want to shell out more money for this car...I've already spent $1500 in repairs. What should I do?

Eric..

Youre not a dummy, your learning... What I would do is go to the place where you got the fluild changed and ask what they put in it, see what they say, dont give them the info 97_Plat gave to try and get an honest answer...

If its something like Dexron get it to a Dodge dealer and get it done with the above mentioned fluid it WILL damage youre transmission if its the wrong type..Or if
the people at your quick lube place say
they put an addivtive in there to `upgrade` the fluid... you still need to get it done
properly.. It cost me $70, 30k ago, I need
it done again.. as soon as I get $70 spare its back in the Dodge dealer it goes.

OK- I called the Chrysler/Dodge Dealership, and I also called Quik 10. Dodge said that they DO use Dextron transmission fluid, called Dextron 3. Quik 10 said the same thing...also, Quik 10 told me to bring in my Intrepid and they would change the fluid free of charge incase they put the wrong fluid in before...they said they DID NOT change the filter. Should I pay extra and have them change the filter (if they provide that service)? Thanks.

I got my transmission fluid changed again, free of charge, and it is still doing the jerking motion every once in a while when it downshifts from 2nd to 1st gear. Other than that, it's shifting fine and always has. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if something goes wrong....???
