Wondering if anyone had a picture of how they routed dual exhaust around the gas tank on a first gen. or if anyone sells aftermarket kit that is decent (with a good size to it of course). Lookin at custom bending some myself, but not sure how big I can go and still get around the gas tank. I am assuming you have to run both on the one side and then cross over to the other, but it may fit the other route also. Let me see your pics. Thanx

I am heading over to a local custom exhaust shop tommorow, I am interested in dual exhaust as well, but I have the same concern as your (routing it around the fuel tank). I will let you know what they have to say.

I've seen somewhere some kind of a metal plate that protects the fuel tank from the heat of the exhaust, so you can run the pipes right up along side the tank. Somebody mentioned this in the old forum...

You shouldn't have any problem routing the pipe around the fuel tank on the passenger side. I've got duals and they fit fine.

Thanks for that info. I am working 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. so to get to a custom exhaust shop to get an estimate is a little difficult. Now I will have to checj it out. Any idea on cost? So I know how bad they try to rip me off.

It cost me $400. That includes two Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers, all the necessary pipes and clamps, and two stainless steel exhaust tips, plus labor.

It sounds really good. Sounds like a V8 Mustang GT, and it's not too loud inside, just a low hum. He split the pipe, wrapped one around each side, and then put the Flowmasters right at the rear with some nice tips. Also, he used 2.25" pipe, you don't need any bigger with duals, plus, it'll fit beter. I probably added about 8 HP doing this.

do you get any better mileage out of your rig now? i'm gonna drop in a K & N air filter in mine as soon it comes in the mail. I already get about 32 on the road, with the filter i've heard it's more like 35-36. with a real low-pressure dual could it be possible to approach 40 driving 70 or 75?

You are getting that kind of mileage. Wow I get 23 or on the highway 25-27, but then if I drove sensibly that might go up a little. But my dad (grandpa driver only gets 27 in the city.

i drive 70 or 75 max for road trips cuz why tear it up? I know it's reliable but at the current rate i'm putting it thru 150 degree summers and -100 degree winters. no need to run it in to the ground.
