I know many may look at this and laugh, however, the thought has crossed my mind about whether we can, or can not.

You look at some of the vehicles out there that HAVE boost, and their a lot like ours. High powered, V6's, or 4's, that haul lots of weight, on a beefy drivetrain.

So, what is the probability of boosting our cars? Is it even a remote chance, or just a fancifull thought with no hope of execution?

1) Will one or two turbos even FIT under the hood of a 3.2/3.5 Trep? What about a Supercharger?

2) Is it a logistic nightmare dealing with the fuel problems, and electronics issues? Obvioulsy a reprogram would be in store, but would that be enough?

3) Cost is going to obvioulsy be high, but would it be worth the extra 75-150 hp we would get from boost?

4) Most importantly, would the car handle that much more power? Will the drivetrain fall apart? Will the engine implode on itself? What would happen?

5) What about Nitrous? Muhahahahaha....

Just putting the idea in everyones head...

Tell me what you think. Good idea, or totally off my rocker?

The main reason I ask this, is because I want a serioulsy powerful, low 4.0 shot to 60MPh. I honestly could care less about sub-13 second staunts to 1/4 mile. It's all about taking off like a bat outta hell, and maintaining that.

I was thinking about selling my car for a WRX, however, the cost effectivness just isn't there. I didn't put a lot down on my car when I bought it, and I've only been paying on it for a year and a half, so I owe WAY more than anyone would ever give me for it.

I WANT POWER DARNIT! LOTS AND LOTS OF IT!

New Exhaust, engine control mods, timing mods, eletrical mods, and suspension mods are all on the way. But wouldn't it be cool to say you have a Twin-Turbo, 450HP Intrepid R/T? Goes 0-60 in a short 4.5 seconds, and 1/4 mile in sub 13's.

I wanna eat vetts! LoL

Yeah - Yeah, I'm off my rocker, but the possibility IS there!

I think the two major issues are if the car can handle the extra hp and if there is room to put a SC/TC.

I don't know a whole lot about the mechanics of a SC, but I do know about a TC. With a TC, the engine should be fine since TC uses exhaust from the engine to run. I don't know if the drivetrain would be able to handle the extra amount of torque. But there doesn't appear to be any room to mount the TC itself, let alone the piping and exhaust cooling radiator.

I will be looking more into this possibility and if I come across anything, I'll certainly post it on this forum. :)

yeah space is tight under the hood, but you can always find room if you got the $$$. there are lotts of solutions, throw the battery in the trunk, make room on the left side of the engine for the air intake, do some work shaving fenders, all that kinda **** and there will be enough room for a turbo, you will also have to do some work modifying the driveline, because it could not handle the extra power.

Money is the bottom line. The Prowler runs a 3.5 and has just as little hood space as our cars yet they have Superchargers available. Why?? Because Prowler owners are more likely to spend $5000-10,000 on a supercharger kit.

I wish more prowler parts were interchangable with our cars. They have a chrome plate over the autostick shifter that looks hot as hell. Plus, if anyone has ever heard a prowler driving the exhaust note from that 3.5 is mean as Hell!!!

i didn't realize prowlers had automatics. even so, with 100+ extra hp, i'd want a 5 speed in it. it's feasible (not easy) if you have the time and knowledge, except you have to keep in mind that our cars have the engine mounted longways, not transverse like most other FWD cars. anybody know who makes such a 5 speed?

Actually, all of the prowler's are made with autostick. Motor Trend was saying that it is equipped with a B+M shift kit that hits you like a shovel to the head. Sounds good to me!!!!

I really wish there was some way to get that chrome shift cover, it would be a pain in the ass to keep clean of fingerprints but would be worth it. The black shifter looks so good against the chrome.

do the prowlers have true duals? if so, why hasn't some r/t guy put on prowler headers and **** and tried that out?

Hi Voodoo,

While the idea sounds intriguing there's more than a few problems:

--Need to have some aftermarket company step forward and design the part....now this is unlikely since Intrepids aren't viewed in the same light as Mustangs, Corvettes, Trans-Ams, etc.

--Need to make major modifications to the engine compartment to even think about shoe-horning a turbo/supercharger in.

-- Likely the drivetrain would not be able to handle the extra power to "eat vetts" like you mentioned....small boost is possible but not 100-200hp.

-- Might as well throw any resemblance of a Dodge warranty out the window.

My suggestion is to enjoy your Intrepid in the coming years and to fill your need for speed I would look for another toy........

.....such as a 1969 Dodge Charger with a 440 Magnum engine.....now there's an engine compartment you could stick in twin turbos with room to spare! :D

Regards,

Jeff

then wait till some asshole wrecks an LX car and take the rear end, and tranny out of it and stick it in your intrepid. it'll blow away any SHO any day. the r/t could eat those assholes for lunch with a 5 speed and a decent driver.

they're supposedly keeping the intrepid name as an LX with RWD but base engine 3.5 v6 (5 speed auto). r/t gets the 5 speed manual and 4.7 hemi v8. that is the latest from the rumor mill.

wow, that is soundin quite sweet, wonder what the price jump will be? hopefuly not too much. I would love to pick up on of those RT's that sounds amazing, but I do not know how amazing it will be for the fuel budget.

it should be sweet it you do a lot of highway driving. from what i understand you get all 8 cans in town but after you reach highway speeds settle down (cruise control, maybe??) that the PCM shuts off fuel to 4 cylinders to save gas. no telling how much gas it would save, also no telling about how long it would take the thing to react in you mashed the gas to pass someone. guess we'll find out.

According to car-truck, DC is trying to market the LX cars upscale of the competition (ie: Taurus/Imapala) and to market it as "unique" in it having rear wheel drive.

They say the price will go up....how much? They don't say unfortunately. I'm guessing a grand or two. (hopefully no more then that!)
