I had rented a boxtruck from these people a few weeks getting ready for my move. The guy at the rental center ripped me off by $100. When I confronted him of his piss-poor math, he took so long, I told him "what the **** ever, I'd like to move sometime this year."
Not only did he do that...he game me JUST enough miles to go from OH to NC. I had to take one of my cars down, I had to drive an hour away to get a ****ing trailer. Additional 100 miles there.

The trip sucks ass. Slow ford truck, it's ford, and a 14-hour truck ride with NO RADIO!! The radio work, the antenna cable's unplugged.

When I went to return the truck, I had to pay $200 for mile overage. Now I'm pissed at U-HAUL. Wasted $1600 for the damn truck, 3 days. $350 for the trailer for 3 days. $200 for mile overage. I can't be blowing money because they're ****ups. I have plenty of future medical problems coming up.

From Imbred county, Ohio to Darlington, SC. I'm glad to get away.

When my father moved from MB to here in Ont. we had a bit of a fiascle.
He called the office in Thompson(MB) to reserve a 24 foot truck for a certain date. We all thought this was fine and dandy. Well, he drove 26 straight hours to Thompson, and during that 26 hours of driving he was doing, we got a call from U-**** telling us that they didnt have a trailer. Apparently, they go by "first come, first serve" which is kind of stupid. What the hell is the point of making a RESERVATION if they cant ****ing honour it?!?! We also made this "reservation" a MONTH in advance! In a months time you would think they would be able to pull their heads out of their asses.

The people they employ are also pretty useless, vulgar and just plain ****ing rude. We tried to be civil over the phone, yet, we got hung-up on 4 times by the regional manager trying to resolve this. ****ing douchebags!

We were all pretty pissed. In the end my Grandmother had to drive a truck up to Thompson from Winnipeg(9 hour drive) with my uncle in order to make my fathers trip usefull and not waste a bunch of time/money.

In the end, **** UHAUL! I cannot stress how much I would recomend ANYTHING else. They almost cost us a shitload of money because they couldnt get **** straight.

If there were other truck rentals in Ohio/South Carolina, I would've gladly used them. ****, the U-HAUL trucks look like used condoms. Every time I see a Penske Truck (they do rentals, right?) they look well-maintained and clean.

The boxtruck I had, it sounded worse than a Johnny-Popper, and is slower than Bush/Dickhead Cheney. :barfonu:
In Tennessee and North Carolina, I (damn near) had to floor it going downhill with the overdrive off just to make it up the peaks of the hills.

Maybe that's where rejects go for a job even if Wal-Mart said "**** you."

The old codger in Darlington where I dropped off the truck, is a good and helpful guy. He had to play by the ****nut rules, but he did as much as he could to help me out.

When I moved from MN to KS, I rented a trailer from UHaul, the largest enclosed one they had. Like the original poster, I had to drive 45 minutes in a V10 Dodge Ram that got like 12 mpg to go get it. Needless to say, it wasn't there. They sent me to yet another location, but at least this was on the way back to my place. I explained this to the guy at the rental counter and he was real nice and gave me quite a discount.

Rented from Budget once, never a problem. Truck was clean, and fairly new. Didn't cost too much either.

I rented a trailer from UHaul when I moved from NY to FL. spent something like $500, when I went to return the trailer the place that was suppost to accept the trailer was closed. I had to go the next day but I didnt have to pay any extra. Anyway I heard "budget" is better..

U-Haul's are rolling death traps. They don't do maintenance on their fleets.
here in Ontario (Canada), many U-hauls have been pulled off the road with defective brakes, wheels, steering components etc. during Police road blitzes.

i have rented from u-haul, penske, and budget.

Penske gave me a truck with a carb issue, i moved about 100 miles, used about $85 in gas. Explained it to the counter guy, got 2 days free, no mileage charge, plus a $50 credit off the bill

Budget gave me a truck for a 9 mile move, truck was almost new, ran perfect, waited for me to get there (supprise snow storm wanted to get done a day earlier)

Uhaul i used 3 times, each time was OK, not good, no bad....meh.

Been there... and I agree. When I was looking for ways to get my Intrepid to Carlisle this summer, UHaul was an option but i refused to rent one of their tow-dollies simply because of the disasterous past experiences ive had with them.

I rented once from u-haul. The truck leaked, and the shifter linkage was so worn it didn't go into park. I found out about that when the truck backed into a parked car after I got out of it. Bastards wanted MY insurance to pay for the damage...needless to say that didn't happen...

Havent rented from anyone else but U-haul. Ive had 2 problems with them, both the same scenario. When I bought my Trep and had to drive from OH to NY to pick it up, I had reserved a trailer at my destination by phone. When I got there, no trailer. Had to drive 70 miles further east to pick one up.

Picked up another Trep in Columbus, OH, same thing. Except I went to 3 different U-Hauls that supposedly had the trailers, none. Ended up finding one at a 4th U-haul. Again, reserved beforehand by phone. Quite irritating.

I rented from U-Haul once, a 30-foot box truck. The ones on the lot were Shiny and new when I signed up, but when I went to pick it up that weekend, all that was there was an old piece of crap. Walking out to the truck, the chain-smoking trailer-trash lady says "Oh, you can drive a stick right?" Despite that fact that all the signs said "Automatic Equipped" when I reserved, this POS was a 3-speed.

I can drive a stick, but what if I couldn't? Would have been seriously screwed.
