I have a Viper alarm system with remote start in my '01 Intrepid. The alarm is great but there is one thing that I hate. My car automatically locks the door when I start driving. Once I get out, all doors are locked except the driver's door because I exit the car. Now when I go to open the back door, it is locked and the transmitter will not unlock the doors when I press the unlock button. I first have to engage the alarm and then disengage the alarm by the transmitter to get all the doors to unlock. I think it is stupid that the doors just won't unlock when I press the unlock button. I know its a very small problem but it is annoying at times. Does anyone else have this problem with their keyless entry/alarm systems??

I gots a hornet 700 sumthing, keyless upgrade, my remotes werk fine. That is annoying tho to get out and have to unlock the rear door to grab the goodies. Not as annoying as having someone jump in yer car as yer going down the road tho.

atleast i would think so

I'll have to check into my alarm system to see if something isn't set right. How do I disengage the autolock function in my car?

is it the viper 550esp system? that is what I have . I don't have that option enabled. I think programing involves using you valet switch and then programming it some how.
you can download the owners guide from this site

I'm not sure if you already knew this but your Doors will lock automatically at about 15MPH. This will occur if you have keyless entry or a factory Anti-Theft system. I had a Viper 600ESP alarm installed on my 99ES. I was told by several professionals that the factory Anti-Theft system cannot be eliminated, I guess because of the microchip in the key that's required to start the vehicle etc. I had my Viper 600ESP wired into the Locktronics Factory Anti-Theft system so when the Viper is armed it will also arm the Locktronics. I thought it would be a waste to have it just sitting there not being used.

Yeah, I actually like that feature, the fact that they automatically lock after turning the ignition. My Viper did that too. I actually had them program it where it would only unlock my door instead of all so someone couldn't jump in and try to jack me. I actually kind of like the Factory automatically lock at 15MPH, it's not too bad if you think about it.

The only thing is that it used to scare the shhht out of me before I knew about it because I'd be driving and It's like WTF was that sound? Was that my locks?

It's cool because if you unlock one of the back doors or side door to let someone in then forget to lock them, you aint gotta trip. If someone tries to jack you, the door should be locked. I kind of like that feature myself.

Take care guys,

I have a Viper installed with the factory conv grp, no factory alarm. It was installed by a car electronic shop so I have no details to pass on, except that all of the factory options apply. I can go to valet mode, or set it so the doors all unlock when I open the drivers door, and I think I can also disable the auto lock if I want. I also have one button unlock/lock with the FACTORY fob. I don't use a Viper fob since they wired it to use the factory fob. I also know my installer had to call the Viper factory to get all of the wiring just right. There are ways to splice into our system that allows all factory sttings to remain.

Hey Don, I'm not sure if I got this right but it sound like you have that same thing I had but just reversed and use the Factory Remote to arm both or the Viper Alarm?

If I am correct and this is the case or this is the case for anyone else it is actually best to use the Viper remote instead of the factory. Perhaps any other aftermarket remote if it's a decent alarm. Most car alarms such as Viper (DEI) or usually Clifford have remotes that are more difficult to clone usually with rolling codes. My 600ESP remote had 266 rolling codes. I had seen a thing on TV about how easy it was to clone a factory type remote or cheap alarm remotes and it's pretty scary. I guess any expert can do anything like that but I try my best to make it as difficult as possible. Some may have already known this stuff but just thought I'd mention it just in case.

I had the same issue with my new Viper system when I had it installed about a month ago. The installer (who I've used before and does great work) explained it to me like this: The Viper system simply goes back and forth from Locked (or armed) to Unlocked (or disarmed). If you unlock the car with the Viper system, and the doors lock somehow, (say automatically because you're driving more than 15 mph) the Viper system still "thinks" they're UNlocked, and therefore won't unlock them again. Confusing, I know... He said the only workaround is to lock them all, then unlock 'em again. It IS a pain though.

My Viper uses the factory fob and all functions are as with the factory. The doors lock at 15 mph, the doors all unlock when I hit the button, or when I unlock or open my door from inside. The factory fob is used to put it into valet mode, and I can still lock the doors with the fob while in valet mode. You have a remote start, that makes it different maybe.

Does anyone know how to disable the factory auto-lock function that engages when driving over 15 mph?
