I was wondering if anybody might know the best way to handle this situation?

When I bought my new SXT (Aug.28) the dealer told me it came with a VTSS (vehicle theft security system) A.K.A. the blinking light on the dash.
When I got home, I discovered it wasn't working. Took it back.
Dealer said he wasn't sure if it came with the car, but would look into it. Called me at home and said, yes it is supposed to have it, bring it in and we'll fix it. Get to service dept. and they give me the run around saying not all treps come with them, you don't really need it...etc. After protests from me they run the V.I.N., and low and behold.. She ain't supposed to have it, I didn't pay for it, but the manager didn't want me to go away angry, so he said because of the mistakes, he'll put one in for me.
NOW, for my question! They offered to put in an aftermarket alarm for me. I didn't want that due to the fact that the one on my van is a pain in the a**. The new alarm fobs suck, so I requested a factory VTSS be installed. They agreed to do it, but all of a sudden they can't find the VTSS module anywhere!!! Go figure!, but they would still be willing to put in a (cheap I'm sure) aftermarket one for me.
Sorry for the long post, but what do you think? Are they jerkin' me on the factory one or no?
How far can I push these guys, seeing how I didn't even really pay for it in the first place( even though they led me to believe I was getting it when I bought the car)?:baaa:

if they told you that it was installed, reguardless of you paying for it or not, that was part of a verbal contract IMO. i would say they should install it.

I definitely would not let them install any aftermarket system in there. I've seen plenty of those done by dealers and I have to say, I put more faith in Best Buy (damn that was hard to say). If they aren't willing to install the OEM VTSS system, I'd drop it and move on. If you don't like aftermarket remotes and want to keep the OEM feel you can get an OEM upgrade from DEI. You keep the OEM remotes and everything will work exactly as it does now, but with alarm security features and DEI quality...

NKA, unless that's something that you wanted on your car, I wouldn't even bother with the hassle. These days, no one really even pays attention to car alarms anymore..............:baaa:

Just ask em for the sun sensor on the dash, that way you can make automatic headlights for free.

All Canadian cars come with a SKIM key, no if's ands or buts. The price of the SKIM system is included in your car. But there is a difference between SKIM and SKIM with VTSS. Do you have a SKIM key, grey in color with embedded chip? There is no such thing as a VTSS/alarm module, your NGC (engine controller) is either armed or can be armed. If you already have SKIM all they have to do to enable the alarm is change the trunk harness and add a trunk cylinder knockout sensor, change the two front door harnesses and add a pisa switch (lock cylinder sense) then hook up a DRBIII and enable the alarm. Obviously they now realize it's more expensive than they thought. Bottom line is if they said they'ld give it to you, they owe you. If they want to give you an aftermarket alarm I would ask someone like dbaudiopro what would be a good system for you? Don't settle for anything less.

Greetings again!
Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I was camping with the family. Sometimes you have to spend some time away from your car. hehe.
Thanks for all the replys.

Yep same thing here I was lead to believe it came with it and it didn't...I do swear that the led was blinking the day I checked her out...although I was seriously looking at 300m's too. Anyways it was standard and now not. So I guess it's really not worth the hassel and will just set up the led to blinkwith a toggle switch if I can I suppose...if that even really matters anymore to someone who really wanted to steal it.

It's easy to set up the alarm, all you need is a trunk knockout sensor, bracket and the right trunk harness. This will allow an enable of the alarm. The only thing you won't have is the sensors in the doors lock, so that means you cannot arm or disarm the alarm by using a key in the door, only the remote will work. Just like an after market alarm.
