I found the How-To for water pump replacement but I guess you cant post replies in the how-to pages, so...I had my OEM pump replaced several years ago because it was leaking. It was one of the first things to crap out on the car. The replacement pump has a little hole at the top of the front flange. I think I can see the shaft spinning at the bottom of the hole. I've always dripped some oil into the hole figuring it would help lube and clean out any dirt/water that may damage the shaft, but why is that hole there? Should I continue to put oil in it?
From what I've seen in the how-to page the OEM pumps don’t have that hole.

Yeah, that would be the weeping hole. It's there to allow coolant that gets by the inner seal to drain out. Any oil you put in there will not make it to the bearings.
