I'm on my 3rd intrepid, and I love them! We all know all the things to like about them. But if you had to list what you didn't like, what would they be?

My top 3 :

1) Wind noise - My 01' is much worse than my 99', even though for 01' they used thicker glass to help with the noise. Dealer has adjusted 3 times, but it still roars above 70 from the A pillar. They're going to replace the rubber seals next.

2) Leather seats - To call this leather is a reach.. must have come from malnurished oxen in Tibet. But it would rate as a very nice vinyl!

3) Transmission - What a slushbox, who knows how much power that thing wastes getting it down to the road. And why not have different shift points in Autostick mode?

All nitpicks, I know. But I'd be interested to hear others opinions. Still alot of car for the money.

Better tranny, and a bit more power in the R/T. A 150mph speedo would be nice too! (Hell the neon R/T has a 140mph speedo!)

take the governor off the "high performance" models. the R/T did it. the least they could have done, since nothing else is different, with the sport 1st gens is take the governor off. maybe they did and i haven't wound the car up enough to know it yet... hmmm. <g>

i also hate how when you have the a/c off but the fan drawing air if you set it to recirculating the a/c kicks in. if i see a dust cloud or something up ahead and i quickly flip to recirc, i am greeted with a thud and an angry growl.

1. LACK OF LOW END TORQUE. WHOAAA, IS IT EVER SLUGGISH FROM THE START, UNLESS THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR.

2. LACK OF QUALITY SOUND FROM THE 240-WATT (?) INFINITY SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY FROM THE REAR DECK. ALWAYS HAVE TO LOWER THE BASS DRAMATICALLY TO LISTEN TO IT LOUD!!

3. CHEAP CLEARCOAT PAINT. MORE SWIRL MARKS THAN HAIR ON THAT PINK WIG ON THIS SITE

In my opinion, what we don't like about our Intrepid's is only important if the quantity and significance of the things we don't like outweigh the list of things we wouldn't like if we owned other cars like a Pontiac Grand Prix or Ford Taurus, or even other Japanese cars like a Camry or Accord.

Personally, I don't think they do. I love my Intrepid. It isn't perfect, but then again no car is. For $15,000, which is what I bought it for with 17,700 miles, it is a fantastic value. Given that price, it's amazing how many well-designed and implemented features there are that we all take for granted; the nice dull thud (reminiscent of much more expensive cars) that you hear when you close the doors, for example.

no doubt that the good things about this series of cars FAR outweighs the bad things. the primary controls have good feel, not too airy. they give solid response. the secondary controls are depicted in simple pictures and are easily manipulated. the design of the body is world-class. the core powerplants have proven to be bulletproof with proper maintenance. maybe we should start a thread with things that people like about their cars....

I agree the good things by far out wiegh the bad things. Ive owned both 1st and 2nd gen Intrepids. Both has had every option avail. So its easy to compare the cars, the 2nd gen takes the cake. but on the 2nd gen I will still have to complain about the sound noise, the lack of low end tourque.

I don't have my R/T yet, but from the R/T's I test drove, I thought they had a LOT of jump off of the line.

Things I don't like (nitpicks):
1) What an ugly cheap rubber center armrest
2) What's with those ugly black pieces of plastic behind the rear windows? They could put a little piece of glass in there to reduce the bad blind spot, or they could've done what Warlord did to his R/T.
3) Blind Spot, it's pretty bad (but not nearly as bad as a Pontiac Grand Am)
4) Why can't you get a 2-Door model??? WHYYYYYYYYYY????
5) Where's the 5 or 6 speed manual??? (Nissan Maxima has a 6-speed for 2002 OMG, unfortunetly a Maxima is overpriced and UGLY!)
6) What's with the lack of colour choices on the R/T's? I WANT YELLOW OR ORANGE OR SOMETHING BRIGHT (like any colour available on a VW Beetle) I WOULDN'T EVEN MIND FLAME RED, it's not available on an R/T in Canada. Silver will have to do though. A good choice of interior colours with accents would be good too.
7) Why does the US get Dodge but we get Chrysler? I like the Dodge nameplate better.
8) No motorsports edition for Canada??? We're getting shafted!
9) I want 19" rims, HAHA LOL maybe I'm going a little too far, 17" is fine with me. The nicest factory rims out there I think.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the cars I test drove, If these features had been implimented the Intrepid could've been the perfect car. The way it is though, it's near perfect. I'm 21 so I have different needs than what the Intrepid is designed for, I want an import killer to put the Jap 4-bangers in their place.

More responsive tranny and low end torque - though I think the tranny may help it along.

My 2001 R/T is the quietest one yet. Still get that boom though on certain concrete surfaces.

Would like thr R/T to have 275 HP. Duals would be nice (and a little louder at that).

As always, better paint.

Wow... so many young people with Intrepid R/T's. How can you all afford the insurance?

The insurance on my Intrepid is just under $200 per month, for full coverage of course.

While there are times I would have liked to get the ES model or possibly the R/T, I still love my car.

And, by the way Avenger, my 2.7L Intrepid already beats a lot of ricers out there, so your new R/T will have no problem doing the same.

Hey, about that insurance cost, the Intrepid is one of the cheapest cars in Canada to get insurance for. Full coverage for a 2002 SE is $190/month, ES is $210/month, and an R/T is $225/month!!! My dad was trying to convince me into buying an Oldsmobile Intrigue (not sporty if ya ask me!) insurance on that car is $285/month for a piece of GM plasticky CRAP!

I have alot of wind noise on my 2000 Trep as well, most of which comes from the sunroof. I also have noticed that the weatherstripping around the back doors seems to have shrunk or just not fit right from the factory. Other then that and the factory stereo being a piece of trash, I love the car.

The headlights stay on for waaaay too long at night after you take the key out of the ignition. 90 seconds, i think. is there a way to change this?

the black pieces between the windows looked stained and crappy TWO days after i got my car. will be replaced under warranty asap. that's all so far.

does the fabric upholstery wear well? I had a 98 gr caravan which held up decently....[/LIST]

I decided to buy my Intrepid based on the looks/style, price, and size. I know it wouldn't be perfect, but I expected alot more from the Tranny which is my #1 problem I have with my 2001. 2nd would be the wind/road noise. 3rd would be the Factory head unit. My car came with the tape/CD player and it also had built in (noise reduction). A song comes on that i like, and I turn the radio up and about 30 sec later it turns itself down by 60%. Who ever came up with this idea should be dragged out in the road and shot.... SO needless to say it took me 3months of this (BS) to have it replaced by a Pioneer 4X50W cd deck........ On a scale of 1-10 I'll give my car a 8.5 , there's alot of room for improvement.

I would say #1 road noise, #2 POS stock radio (non-Infinity), and #3 more power/low-end torque. I love this car, rides nice, handles well, great looking, and now with a new head unit, better sounding, although it needs all new speakers. I only wish I could have afforded a fully loaded ES...leather, sunfoof, spoiler, overhead consule, etc.

I bought the car cuz I was in financial trouble and couldn't afford my '01 Dodge Stratus R/T (loaded with every option). That was about the nicest car I have ever owned, just needed to be RWD and have a bit more power (only 200 horses). So, I knew I had to stay with Dodge having previously owned a '95 Avenger before the Stratus, so what better than a nice big sporty 4-door with tons of interior space and cargo room....hello Intrepid.

Being that I needed to help myself get out of debt, I was not able to be picky and so was only able to go with a '98 (love the redesigned body). I had to have an ES for the extra few features but had to take a higher milage vehicle. I only wish I could have afforded a fully loaded ES...leather, sunfoof, spoiler, overhead consule, etc.

My first choice would have been an '01 Motorspoorts edition or at least an R/T edition, but seeing as how those do not offer some of the conviences as the ES, I would have gone with a 2000 model ES.

Now I just have to sit back for about 4 years, enjoy what I have and save up for either an Intrepid R/T or a 300M! And as long as I have a place to wash it every week, it'll be a black in color!

#1. Like others have said, better torque out of the transmission.
#2. V8 with 300 Hp & rear wheel drive.
#3. I like the 300M digital climate control better than the simple dial we get.
Thats my ultimate wish list. Really, I'm extremely happy with what you get with the stock packages but anything can be improved.
