Here I am...touting the virtues of how great Chrysler is and how my car has not had a single problem in it's almost three years of existence and BAM!!! It happens to me.

I hop in my Intrepid to go to the Post Office to deliver a book to one of my internet buddies in CA. Halfway down the street the car jerks into second gear. Then first, then second, then 3rd, then second. Then it's stuck in second.

HUH??? BING! There goes the Check Engine light! So I turn off the car. I turn it back on...no difference, it's screwed. So I drive back home.

I call my brother up at the dealership in MI on his cellphone. He tells me it's in Limphome mode. Yippee. He has me go outside and cycle the key three times and I get 2 codes. P 1684 and P 0700. He didn't have a listing for the first code, but the second basically says to check the trans controller for codes. So, in other words...time to go to the dealer and have them take a look. Hopefully, my brother says, it's just an input/output sensor. Who knows???

I call the dealer, they are booked until Thursday!!! What the F??!! Luckily I have an extra car, but this is a dark day in Intrepidatious' MOPAR life.

Please console me... :(

That sounds like some major suckage. On a good note, P 1684 means that the battery has been disconnected in the last 50 starts. At least I think it's 50.

Sorry to hear that- I'm experiencing a tranny problem or something also. How do you get the codes to display like that? I would like to check it before taking it to the dealer.
Thanks,
Bk

To get the engine codes, just cycle the key three times and the codes will display where the odometer is.

My brother thought the 1684 was batt disconnected, but wasn't concerned. He says it shows up on every car. (It never has had the battery disconnected, so it must always be on there)

I hope it's something cheap. He asked me if the speedo worked, becuase then it would be the output sensor. Unfortunately, the speedo works, so hopefully it's the input sensor and not something expensive.

Zoinks!

I would not be too concerned. My 99 base (Green like yours) had the same problem with 60k on the odo. I think it was the speed sensor on the tranny? Anyway it was an easy fix. I could not tell you how much it cost because my company paid for it.

How lucky you are to have the limphome mode, instead of the AAA mode. (Get a tow)

Question, did you happen to have Anti Foam in your trans fluid? Ever added anything to it other that regular tranny fluid? Not this has anything to do with it, sounds like electronic, not mechanical.

Nope never have done anything to it. The fluid was full and pink. As a matter of fact, I was about to schedule a new filter and fluid change. I guess it's going to get one now! ;)

Yeas it did have the same symptoms. By the way, you wont get new fluid. I don't think they need to crack the tranny to change the sensor, I could be wrong.

Actually I meant to say I'm going to have the service done at the same time. I'm also going to get new belts while I'm there. Mine are getting dry rotted. They are going to get some cash from me!! :(

My dealer charges 421.00 for the 30,000 mile service. It includes the tranny service, oil and a bunch of other stuff so this thing had better run like a new car again. I hope the repair is under warranty though.

Yeah the OTIX console looks killer. Has the sunroof controls and all. Can't wait to get it going.

Better not let the lady see you in "PimpHo" mode. Hahahaha.
